Company Company Profile

Institute of Education, University of London (IOE)

Thinking of teaching? Or interested in further study in education and social science?

If you’d like a rewarding career as a teacher, the IOE offers a wide range of teacher training programmes, which OFSTED recently rated as outstanding or good with outstanding features. And in the Training and Development Agency for Schools Newly Qualified Teacher Survey (2009), 87 per cent of our NQTs rated the overall quality of their training as good or very good.

We offer PGCEs and employment-based routes to becoming a teacher in primary (including language options) and secondary schools (in 14 subjects), and in further education (with literacy, ESOL and numeracy specialisms). All of our PGCEs are modular and you can use credits to contribute towards a masters qualification in education.

Alternatively, you can study for masters or research degrees in economics, health, international development, media, psychology, sociology and, of course, education. According to the latest RAE (Research Assessment Exercise) results, the IOE tops the league tables in education research in both quality and quantity. Across all subjects, our performance places us in the top 10 universities in the UK.
