Why did you choose RGU?
I was interested in a course that was specifically targeted at international business. Since most of my business activity is of an international nature, I was interested in learning about the current academic thinking on doing business on the international stage.
What do you like about your course?
I found the course to be extremely well run and the learning material very well focussed and relevant. The lecturers were knowledgeable and were happy to engage with students, respecting their opinions as well as encouraging learning from each other. The CampusMoodle was very well designed and the library facilities exceptional. I cannot remember any time when I searched for a journal article and I was not able to find it easily and quickly. The IB course is very well balanced and covers all aspects of importance for the export manager or entrepreneur.
What have you enjoyed most at RGU?
RGU is a friendly place, even as a distance student. There was never a question of being overwhelmed with the course or a feeling of inadequacy. RGU have perfected the art of distance teaching and they have done it in a way that gives you a feeling of being part of the campus.
What new skills have you gained?
Although I am the CEO of an international business, I have learned that from time to time you do need to sharpen your skills. Of particular relevance to me were the international marketing and strategy modules. I developed a new way to work with my international dealers and was able to take a more objective view and approach to working with them and helping to apply metrics to their performance in their relative territories.
What do you think about the University Support Services?
The support services were excellent. If ever I had a problem with accessing the on line learning Moodle, the replies were quick and efficient. As a distance student, that was the most important!
What does the future hold for you?
I will continue to work as CEO of my company, but hopefully with a fresher approach. Already, I can see improvement in our business model and the developing competencies of our international network. I continue to visit the RGU library from time to time when I need to find out any new in international business strategy. I hope to maintain contact the tutor and lecturers I have known during my time at RGU.
Any other comments?
RGU has provided a world class and affordable platform for distance students who want to engage with the best, but cannot because of geographical restrictions. I would hope that RGU might build on this solid platform and offer more courses in the future. Perhaps an LLM in International Business for example.
