Employer Focus: PeriscopixNews
Periscopix takes a novel approach to the advertising industry by doing things differently across the board, from client relationships to office hours.
Periscopix is an online advertising agency which has been making waves in the industry. The company has grown to work with some of the biggest brands across various businesses, from Tesco to J.P. Morgan, and the Imperial War Museum to The Telegraph. Periscopix believes giving graduates control allows the company to change the way the industry operates-for the better.
Isabella Luba, Recruitment Assistant at Periscopix, says the company's unique approach begins with how they train their graduates.
"We've been disruptive in the industry, When graduates start working for us we put them through our Training Academy, a three month intensive programme, which gets everyone to the same standard."
Periscopix have several positions open to graduates including the London-based role of PPC Marketing Account Manager. Isabella explains what graduates should know about PPC.
"PPC is pay-per-click. It is creating a more efficient way for companies to advertise and reach their customers. For example, if someone types ‘red shoes' into Google, the small yellow boxes that appear at the top of the search offering "20% of shoes" or "free delivery on footwear" are the adverts that we create for our clients."
PPC Marketing Account Managers also help tailor where these adverts appear to help clients reach their desired audience.
"If an Account Manager's client runs a small bicycle repair shop in Hertfordshire, we set the advert to appear in those locations," Isabella says. "This makes the advert more efficient, because it will appear to people in the area who will use the service."
Periscopix entrusts graduates with building strong client relationships. According to Isabella, once graduates have completed the Training Academy they begin working on their own accounts straight away.
"Account Managers find out about a client's company, their requirements, what they sell and what they want to market," she says. "After this, Account Managers begin to build the campaign, keeping an eye on what's worked. They follow the trends and they do the analysis. This is then finally fed back to the client in a report."
Isabella says the control Periscopix gives to graduates over their accounts differentiates the company from the rest of the industry.
"Graduates at Periscopix see the whole process through, this is something that is unique to us. It is about giving that person the responsibility to build those relationships with clients and deliver a good service."
PPC Account Managers speak to their clients regularly, meaning the role requires a mix of analytical and interpersonal skills.
"It has the data heavy side, where graduates are looking at trends and analysing figures, but there is also the client facing side where they have to be able to interact with people professionally," Isabella says.
The close interaction between Account Managers and clients also marks Periscopix out from competitors.
"To differentiate us further we are very transparent and open. We care about improving our client's campaigns and keeping them informed throughout."
While Account Managers look after their clients, Periscopix ensures their employees are also treated well. Isabella says the company has a keen focus on retaining new starters. Two of the ways they do this is by ensuring they only ever promote from within and they offer great working hours.
"We work smarter rather than longer hours and it works really well. It is a really good way for graduates to start because Periscopix is giving new starters a really good structure to begin with."
"Employees work 9am until 5:30pm. This allows them to pursue their own interests and hobbies as well as socialising with colleagues, who quickly become friends, outside of the office as well as at work."
Isabella says this means employees are much more focused during work hours, which benefits the company and its clients.
"When we are working 9am until 5:30pm everyone is really focused and really getting on with their work, so the work we are putting out is of a much higher quality. This is the reason why our companies reputation has grown the way it has."
Periscopix has seen a lot of growth in recent years-and taking on bigger clients means more opportunities for graduates.
"It is quite a flat hierarchy," Isabella says. "Because we are growing, there are numerous opportunities to progress. By only promoting from within, when graduates have an area where they want to develop, or they want to grow as a team leader or senior account manager, there are opportunities to do so."
Periscopix's success shows that caring about individuals, both as employees and as clients, has helped them grow as a business.
"It is the kind of company that really values people as individuals and what they can bring to the company both with their characteristics, their knowledge and the skills they want to develop," Isabella says.
"I think our company culture really nurtures people's individual strengths."
