Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS

Graduate Aerodynamicist

Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS

The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team, based out of Brackley, UK, brings together over 1,300 dedicated and determined people that design, develop, manufacture, and race the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and Grand Prix winner, George Russell.

We apply the same vision, skills and vitality to projects for external clients, through our Applied Science Division. Customers for our aerodynamic consultancy have included winter sports, cycling, automotive and aerospace sectors, and a range of motorsport series. We are also working closely with INEOS Britannia on their entrant for sailing’s America’s Cup, bringing together our shared enthusiasm for performance engineering and sporting endeavour.

We are looking for curious graduates who are passionate about aerodynamics to join our Team and support this portfolio of activities. A prior interest in sailing or motorsport is not required: we are more interested in your ability to apply your skills and aerodynamic understanding to practical engineering challenges.

The role:
You will work collaboratively as part of a small team, applying your thoughtful and innovative nature to a range of stimulating challenges. Initially these will be in our Applied Science Fluids Group, working on customer projects, but later there could be opportunities around the Team, on a variety of projects.

By interpreting trends and developing understanding, you will create innovative engineering solutions to real problems. As a valued member of our Aerodynamics Department, your ideas and skills will make a tangible contribution to the Team.

Your responsibilities will include:
• Developing concepts that enhance aerodynamic or hydrodynamic performance
• Interpreting trends, for example from our state-of-the-art CFD and wind tunnel facilities
• Improving our understanding of flow structures
• Collaborating to create innovative solutions
• Enhancing the tools you and your colleagues use to find performance
• Surfacing and designing components in CAD
• Meshing and post-processing CFD
• Planning and running test programmes

Supported and mentored by knowledgeable engineers, you will see your skills develop. Immersed in a culture of empowerment and fresh thinking, you will build the foundation for a successful career in your chosen specialism.

The role is office-based at our Brackley, UK campus.

What we are looking for:
Your commitment and diligence have yielded good university results: you have completed, or will soon be completing, a relevant course of undergraduate or post-graduate study and you have a good appreciation of undergraduate-level aerodynamics.

With an open and honest communication style and a broad overview of your subject, you relish collaborating in a team setting and enjoy discussing technical concepts. You are equally comfortable working on your own: applying your reflective nature, interpretive skills, attention to detail and dependable judgment to understand complicated engineering problems then propose and evaluate viable solutions in a timely fashion. Looking to fulfil your potential, you are excited about constantly learning while fostering the understanding of others.

Benefits:
At the heart of our performance are our people. Every member of our team has a voice and plays their part in contributing to our successes on and off the racetrack.

We take pride in creating an innovative, collaborative and high-performance culture where all of our team members are respected, empowered and valued.

Through our Accelerate 25 programme, we are continuously working to make our team even more diverse and inclusive. We welcome applications from all and are committed to attracting, recruiting and retaining the most talented individuals.

Our riverside campus is powered by 100% renewably sourced energy and features an on-site gym and exercise studio, subsidised restaurant and on-site parking with EV chargers available.

We offer a competitive and attractive package of benefits including a generous bonus scheme, Mercedes car lease scheme, private medical cover, life assurance, and 25 days holiday.

Recruitment process:
Application is fully online. When you apply you will be asked to upload your CV and cover letter (the preferred format is one single pdf file). Please also indicate in your cover letter when you would be available to start. You will also complete an online application form including details of your academic study and relevant experience – please complete this in full. Following your application, you will be emailed a link to our online technical test in aerodynamics and a psychometric test, which must also be completed.

The Hiring Manager will review your application and test scores and if successful you will be invited to the interview stage, which may be virtual or in-person.

We welcome applications from all candidates, and we may be able to provide sponsorship to those who require a visa to live and work in the UK, subject to meeting all the necessary home office requirements.

All assessments in the recruitment process are in English: this is the primary language used within the organisation and you will need a good command of it in the role.
