Technology is first class at Royal Mail

Every operation at Royal Mail is made more efficient through the use of technology, according to one graduate.

Royal Mail has been delivering post in the UK for nearly 500 years. But the organisation's long history doesn't mean they still use old methods-in fact, one graduate on their Technology Graduate Programme was surprised by the amount of new technologies in use.

Nicholas White joined Royal Mail in September 2014 to find that the organisation has thousands of unique pieces of technology in operation.

"I didn't know what to expect before joining Royal Mail," he says. "I have been surprised by the level of technology. Every role requires [something]. There are hundreds of thousands of pieces of technology used every day, and that's just amazing."

Nicholas says the letter sorting machines are the most impressive.

"They eat thousands of letters all day, every day and make no mistakes."

Royal Mail's Technology Programme is a two-year scheme which allows graduates the opportunity to gain experience and make a difference in an innovative and progressive environment. Nicholas explains he was attracted to the programme because of the groundwork it provides.

"I see a great future for myself here at Royal Mail. I will have built a fantastic foundation with these two years, all the experience to make a great career in technology and that's what I'm aiming for."

"To be honest, I didn't really know what to expect before joining, but I'm pretty confident I've landed myself in a great job."
