    Interview process

I initially applied to be a Customer Service Rep on the phones, so went to the first stage of that. There, there was a maths test and a competency based questionnaire to complete. At the end of the interview, I was offered to try for the Account Manager position instead, and went back 5 weeks later to meet the head of HR and Regional Manager for the North. After that stage I was taken for a field ride for the day to see if I would enjoy the job, and then at stage 4 I had an interview with the Sales Manager. Due to my lack of Sales experience he suggested I should fill a vacancy in one of their centres to gain the experience needed for the Account Manager position. So my final stage involved visiting a Hilti Centre with a final interview with the National Retail manager and team leader.

    Most difficult question

I was asked about my weaknesses, strengths, if I learned any languages, activities I had done I was proud of.

    Interview tips

Learn the values of the company - Integrity, Teamwork, Courage and Commitment. I met several people from Hilti throughout my interview stage and every single person truly believes and stands by these values. Think of things you have done in your life - whether that be in education or employment that fits these values. Be honest and genuine with them - and demonstrate you are proud of what you have achieved.

    Interview process

My telephone interview lasted around 30 minutes and was with the HR Business Partner for the North. She was very pleasant which made the experience a lot less stressful. As I was being interviewed for the role of an Account Manager there were a lot of questions regarding my experience working in retail. After I was successful I was asked to the Head Office in Manchester for a face to face interview with the same lady and the Regional Sales Manager. They were very friendly and again focused on my experiences working in retail. There was a lot of questions regarding progression and development and why I wanted to leave my current part time job.

    Most difficult question

What do you think are the three main issues for an Accounts Manager?

    Interview tips

Make sure you link your answers to the company values: Integrity, Courage, Teamwork and Commitment. They offer a lot of training so its obvious they are interested in people who want to develop themselves, work their way up and progress. Saying you are mobile seemed to be a huge bonus as well.

    Experiences at the assessment centre

I had a field day instead of attending an assessment centre. This was a chance for me to shadow somebody for the day to see if the role was something I would enjoy. I was picked up at half 8 by an Account Manager and spent the day asking her questions and seeing what the role involved. It was very enjoyable and extremely helpful as I have never known a company to do this.

The interview was 3 stages, first round was with a member of HR and I sat a test. Second interview was more in-depth about the role and was carried out by 2 Customer Service supervisors. Final interview was with the Customer Service and sales manager. All stages where friendly and casual, all the staff were lovely, making the process more pleasant. All lasted roughly 30-40 minutes. I even got lost on my first attempt of finding the office and rang up and got help!

    Most difficult question

Where would you like to be in 5 years.

    Interview tips

Research the company and look at media coverage! Don't apply for roles you aren't really interested in!

    Experiences at the assessment centre

Luckily an assessment centre wasn't required for this role, as I find them intimidating and uncomfortable.

    Interview process

The first stage of my interview was a phone interview. This was very informal and friendly, and mainly focused on my career to date, and why I wanted to work for a company like Hilti. I was also asked what my greatest achievement to date was.

My second interview was infront of a panel of people including a regional sales manager. This was a formal interview which was again conducted in a friendly manner, but there was a lot more competency based questions, and quesitons about my CV and career in general.

The third interview was a day out on the road with a current Account Manager. This was great as it gave me an insight into the job, and also enabled me to learn more about the company before my final interview.

My final interview was with the sales director, and my regional manager. This was similiar to the second interview, but involved more indepth conversations about the specific job role.

    Most difficult question

    What is your biggest weakness?

My initial interview was with a recruitment staff, who asked me what I know about the company, give example of my strengths and weaknesses and why I will like to work for the company. The next stage was a face to face interview, a little bit informal, but was more of a ice-breaking stage, getting the manager to see if I have what it takes to work for the company. The third stage of the process, was meeting with another manager who based his questions mostly on my work experience, trying to identify what skills I have and where I can apply it within the company. The final stage of the interview was with the sales director, whose questions where mainly based upon my personality, work experience and general view of the business, trying to identify how I would perform in such role, given my skills set.
