Telecommunications giant BT opens hundreds of new positions for university and school leavers.

BT is a world leader in telecommunications helping to connect millions of people across the UK. The company is creating 1,400 new job opportunities for graduates and school leavers to ensure the organisation's long-term future.

Chief Executive of BT, Gavin Patterson, says BT will need trained graduates in the future.

"The UK has been ranked as the leading digital economy in the G20 for the past five years, and our investment in these people will help this continue," Gavin says.

"Technology is changing all the time and companies need to support and train young people to develop the skills required for successful careers in essential areas such as science, engineering and information technology.

BT will be opening opportunities across the country, with a particular focus on BT's research campus near Ipswich. The new digital careers will be available across BT, EE and OpenReach.

Chief Executive of OpenReach, Clive Selley, says this investment is important for the future of the UK.

"I'm delighted that OpenReach is able to create so many opportunities for school and university leavers across the UK," he says.

"It is vital that we invest in young people to ensure the UK remains a digital powerhouse. The new recruits will be at the heart of the company's transformation."
