Graduates working in logistics at Gist enjoy variety, challenge and responsibility in their careers.

Logistics careers are popular for the variety they offer, and supply chain company Gist are set to give graduates early responsibility and a fast learning curve on their newly-launched Graduate Schemes.

Sam, a graduate who joined the Operational Management Graduate Trainee Scheme at Gist, was attracted to a career in Logistics because of the combination of responsibility and a fast-moving environment.

"I chose to apply for a role in Logistics because I have always enjoyed problem-solving and working with numbers, so supply chain management felt like a good fit," he says. "I was also keen to find a position which would require fast-paced decision making as I get bored pretty easily."

Another graduate working as Warehouse Team Manager at Gist, Alastair, says the variety of his duties on the Trainee Scheme keeps him occupied and engaged.

"I'm required to plan the most productive deployment of staff and brief them on their duties when they start their shift; these briefs can consist of more than 40 employees at a time," he says. "Once all the staff have been briefed, I manage any combination of [duties]. It is this variety that keeps the job interesting, and with my team of first line managers the workload for that day can be spread evenly to ensure our customers are happy."

While Alastair enjoys the variety, Sam says that it's the people who make his work so interesting.

"It was only upon commencing my career with Gist that I came to appreciate that what makes Logistics so great an environment is the people," he says. "Working together with people from different backgrounds and of varying levels of experience and seniority ensures that no two days are ever the same."

Graduates eager to test themselves in a fast-paced career should look closely at the opportunities offered by Gist's Graduate Trainee Schemes.
