Pagoda Projects
As a Cultural Mentor, you'll participate in short weekly conversations with a student from another country.
Why?
- To improve your intercultural communication skills
- To learn about other countries and cultures
- To meet new people and make friends internationally
- To share your culture and language with another student
- To improve your English language speaking skills
- To gain a certificate for your CV and LinkedIn page
The best bit? There is no cost to take part in this Cultural Mentor programme. All you need is 15 minutes per week for 8 weeks. You will have the choice of which dates you prefer from the Groups below:
Group 1: 27th May 2025 to 18th July 2025
Group 2: 2nd June 2025 to 25th July 2025
Group 3: 30th June 2025 to 22nd August 2025
How does it work?
GET CONNECTED, GET MATCHED, GET GOING!
MATCHED WITH A STUDENT
After we receive your details, we will match you with a foreign student who is completing a 'Remote Internship' with Pagoda Projects. If you're happy, this person will become your Cultural Exchange Partner!
Once you agree on a communication platform (i.e. WeChat, WhatsApp, Zoom), you're ready to go!
ONGOING COMMUNICATION
Pagoda Projects will provide a weekly theme to discuss with your Cultural Exchange Partner. You're expected to complete 15 minutes of video/ voice interaction per week. Feel free to ask questions or chat as much as you would like!
After each discussion, your Foreign Exchange Partner will write up what they've learnt during your interactions.
LEARNING POINTS
You are invited to join other Cultural Mentors and Foreign Exchange Partners for ongoing workshops and seminars relating to employability and cultural exchange.
We will also arrange fun games, quizzes and other activities! You are welcome to stay in touch and you will receive a certificate from Pagoda Projects to thank you for your support which you can add to your CV.
INTERCULTURAL FLUENCY
As a Cultural Mentor, we will provide you with free access to our Intercultural Fluency online course.
This course demonstrates the importance of adaptability when communicating with people from other cultures, in the workplace and in society. You'll develop intercultural understanding and fluency through examining culture case studies from Greater China, Mexico and Vietnam.
What's Involved?
- Check for suggested topics on the Pagoda Projects Portal App
- SET UP a weekly meeting, PREPARE and PROVIDE your mentee with discussion around the weekly topic
- Complete the FEEDBACK FORM (link sent via email) after the programme finishes and your certificate will be processed accordingly
- Be confident and have fun!
Become a Mentor
We are looking for Cultural Mentors aged 18-30 (current students or recent graduates) from any university.
The only requirement is that you have a good level of conversational English, and are passionate to share your culture with another student.
Register your interest by creating an account on the Pagoda Portal and selecting 'I am a Cultural Mentor'.
You'll then be guided through our online Cultural Mentor onboarding programme.
