Salary: A generous package including a salary of £28,500, matched 10% pension contribution, annual bonus, and other benefits.
Job type: This is a permanent role. We are looking for candidates who can work a substantial proportion of the working week, though this does not need to be full time. We have core company hours for which we would expect you to be working, with flexibility outside of these hours.
Starting date: Negotiable (if possible, we would like someone in post between July and September 2024)

About Delta Hat
Delta Hat is a consultancy based near Nottingham providing industry-leading analysis to the pharmaceutical sector and supporting UK health technology assessment (HTA) decision making. We focus on the technical aspects of evidence-based medicine and HTA, utilising methods such as cost-effectiveness modelling and associated advanced statistical analyses (such as propensity scoring and meta-analysis). At Delta Hat, we provide a high level of senior input to the projects we undertake. This means you would spend the majority of your time working in close contact with experienced members of staff. Collectively we have around 150 peer-reviewed publications and have contributed to over 100 assessments of health interventions for a range of health conditions.

Responsibilities
Your day-to-day work will involve the analysis of economic inputs and clinical trial data in a combination of Microsoft Excel and the statistical software package R. You will be given responsibility from the outset and encouraged to develop a specialism and continuously develop your skillset; learning is a large part of our job. In summary, the role involves:

  • Researching a disease area
  • Applying and synthesizing the results of multiple data sources to estimate outcomes (including clinical trial data analyses)
  • Identifying appropriate costs and other inputs from relevant sources
  • Developing economic models to compare costs and outcomes between health technologies (i.e., cost-effectiveness modelling)
  • Communicating findings to clients via face-to-face meetings, telephone calls and technical reports, with the potential to be present at industry conferences and publish in academic journals
  • Writing HTA reimbursement dossiers which demonstrate the value of new health technologies to payers and healthcare decision makers

Role requirements
The candidate we are looking for will have an interest in problem solving and critical thinking - whether that is calculating black body radiation in astrophysics, the sensitivity of oil prices to demand in economics, or the speed of a reaction in chemistry; we value the skills and interest more than the exact degree. Although, we would expect you to have achieved (or be on track to achieve) a 2:1 or above in an analytical subject (for instance mathematics, economics, engineering or science-based subjects), as well as a Grade B or higher in A-level mathematics (or equivalent). A benefit would be experience with Microsoft Excel or statistical software/computer code (for example R, VBA, SAS, Python, or Stata).
