    Interview process

The overall interview's first stage was a competency test, 1hr long detailing technical and intricate attributes. Challenging but very thorough, elaboration of your Microsoft package skills, why you were applying for the role and scenario type situations. The second stage of the interview, was a half an hour Skype interview with a company representative, I didn't get this far so I am unable to offer feedback unfortunately.

    Most difficult question

One of the most difficult questions was explaining software uses; what system tools were for, the advantageous of emulators and disadvantages. I found this particularly hard because if the question was poised to anyone without an expandable n knowledge into software then they wouldn't progress which is a tad unfair because it is primarily focussing on their downfall. I was able to make seen of these questions having that background but I can see where many may struggle and stumble.

    Interview tips

Well, everyone knows this already and if they don't they should, if you are going for an interview with a prospective company, take some time out to really research the company, learn some important facts and figures, it shows dedication and enthusiasm which always impresses the interviewer.

Another would be to be completely thorough in your application, screen the responsibilities and duties before applying. Make sure you tick at east 95% of their overall request before clicking the apply now tab.

No assessment centre for this interview, they only had 3 stages of the application process available, which was the initial application, the timed competency questions and the Skype video interview.

My telephone interview was with a member of their graduate recruitment team. They asked questions about mv CV, skills in web analytics, social media, website creation and increasing search engine optimisation. They asked why I was interested in this role and what skills I could bring to their company. Following a successful phone interview I was invited down to their company office in London. They asked me what I knew about their company, their industry and competitors and competency based questions. Examples of these included; describe a time when you head to lead a team, how do you cope with boring repetitive tasks, explain how you would increase SEO and target specific markets on social media. There was no overall format. The senior management were friendly and made you feel welcomed.

    Most difficult question

The hardest questions were when they asked about how I would carry out specific tasks such as, How would you approach segmenting large amounts of data in the CRM database. Also how would I cope with tedious tasks?

    Interview tips

Have experience and good knowledge of the industry and show how passionate you are about fitting in and working with the team. Give strong examples which demonstrate your ability for the role. If you can, try and answer their unanswered questions.

    Interview process

There were several interviews, some with senior management. A little time was spent discussing my background and experience but the majority was going through the solutions I had come up with during the problem solving exercises. They would challenge points you had made, ask you to expand on certain ideas and push you to make further refinements and improvements to your initial answers.

    Most difficult question

One of the tests and subsequent interviews was an abstract problem solving exercise which involved having to decode an 'alien' numbering system to answer the questions.

    Interview tips

Other than the presentation (which doesn't carry too much weight overall) you can't really prepare or practise much. Essentially you just have to be intelligent enough and display 'blue sky ' problem solving skills (their words).

    Experiences at the assessment centre

The first stage was an online aptitude test, essentially an IQ test. The second stage was at one of their offices. It featured a longer version of the online test, two problem solving exercises and then interviews based largely around the exercises. The third stage featured 3 more problem solving exercises, giving a half hour presentation and more interviews around the exercises with senior management.

Applied online, did the tests, phone interview, then waited like 5 months for further info as they kept pushing back their deadline date with no mention to the fact, going months without updates. Really do not recommend if you like being in any way valued, as opposed to being just another resource.

    Most difficult question

Dealing with an uncooperative/struggling person - the struggling person part was a follow up and quite interesting as it's not an angle i'd come across for that question

    Interview tips

Know about all the different services and competitors, it shows good awareness, and the interviewers were impressed by my ability to talk somewhat in depth about the field.

otherwise don't be afraid to take the lead in the group exercise, but make sure not to overpower others, as they will notice this. Rather try to make sure peoples voices are heard - facilitate rather than dictate

    Experiences at the assessment centre

One on one interview discussing problem solving exercises. The interviewer was friendly and wanted to learn about your thought process as well as how you would improve your answers. The first problem was how to deliver messages between castles using different modes of transportation and the second was writing a flow-chart or pseudocode for a card game called flapjack. Was also asked a couple of questions about my CV.

    Most difficult question

How would you make your software a better flapjack player?

    Interview tips

Nothing you can practice for really, the purpose of the tests is to assess your problem solving skills, and the interview was mainly discussing your answers. Learning about the company and the role might be an advantage but not really necessary at this stage.

First a short presentation of the company and role, followed by 3 aptitude tests and 2 problem solving exercises (Delivering messages and flapjack card game) and lastly a one on one interview mainly discussing the problem solving exercises. Total duration of the assessment day was 4-5 hours.

  • Graduate Software Developer (JAVA)

    Interview process

My CV was submitted on my behalf by a recruitment company. The face to face interview was the first contact I had with anyone at Lockheed.

The interview was very centered around one's experience and items listed on their CV. Additionally, a presentation of an honors degree project had to be given.

There were two people present, the manager and team leader of the roll specified. The interview was mostly conducted by the manager. The questions were mostly all about what was written on my CV, asking about my experience in software development. Basic questions such as "What is Object Orientation?" came up along with "How do you define inheritance in a Java class?".

After the CV and questions were over, we moved onto a presentation of my honors project. As expected, they both asked questions to do with my project and asked me how I thought it was, did any problems arise, how was time management conducted etc...

There were one or two competency questions, where I had to explain a situation I've been in a group scenario, who was the group leader, how were roles delegated, what role did I perform etc... They also asked general questions such as "How do you stay up to date on news in security?" and "What do you do to improve your knowledge?" And then the last few questions were about hobbies and interests.

    Most difficult question

As it was mostly based around my CV, I didn't feel any question was particularly difficult. Personally to me as Java wasn't a program language I use, I couldn't answer how to create an inheritance class. Other than that, I felt every question was reasonable to answer.

    Interview tips

If you arrive at an interview through submission of a CV, make sure you know every aspect of the CV and have a good answer for everything that appears on it. If you obtained an honors degree, make sure you have a 5-10 minute presentation prepared and can talk about it fluently.

    Experiences at the assessment centre

I was given a sheet of paper that was apparently from a client, it was to do with cryptography. On a whiteboard, I was tasked to write a quick pseudo code program to try and decrypt the password shown in hex. I had to explain what I was writing down and talk about how I was expected to arrive at the solution.

My assessment centre comprised of series of events. Out of which one to one interview was first. In that first I was asked general question like why I want to go for this role and was also asked to give a presentation on me. The interviewer was very friendly and made me feel comfortable. After that we had a group activity followed by one on one technical interview.

    Most difficult question

The most difficult question for me in that interview was that I was given a diagram and have to draw connections between the different components shown in it. It was difficult because I have not seen anything like that so I didn't had much knowledge about that.

    Interview tips

Just going through the website will help a lot. Try to interact and make connection to people you meet there. And keep practising the aptitude test question and try to build accuracy in lesser time. The practice question given on there website to practice are important as they have lots of facts and figure. And generally these are the same figures from which they ask question. So practising from them would be beneficial and can get you extra score.

After updating my CV on graduate-jobs.com, I was contacted on the phone by a recruiter representing QA consulting. He explained the role in detail and sent over documentation via email for me to review. After reviewing the material I was rung back and he gave me an overall summary of the offer and answered any questions I had. At this point I was asked for availability for a telephone interview, to which I responded that I could do it immediately.
The phone interview involved speaking in detail about my university course along with some typical interview questions. After the interview the recruiter got back to me within the hour informing me that I passed the phone interview and if I would be available to speak to one of the trainers on skype. I however was busy the rest of the day, so the video interview took place the day afterward.
The video interview was instead of an assessment day and involved a face to face interview with a trainer who asked technical questions (mainly object oriented programming and Java based) and some business based questions. Shortly after the video interview finished, I was contacted by the recruiter who offered me a position on the training scheme.
