Company Company profile

Open to the every day unexpected?

Hello, we’re TJX Europe.

Who? You might ask. But that’s OK, because while you might not have heard of us, you’ve probably heard of our brands – TK Maxx and Homesense.

What you probably don’t know is that we’re part of the world’s leading off-price apparel and home fashions retailer – TJX Companies, Inc.

In 2016 it all added up to an annual turnover of $33.2 billion.*

But we don’t want to stop there. We’re excited about our opportunities for the future and confident in our ability to grow to be a $40 billion plus company.

Let’s go back to the beginning
Our story begins in the United States in 1977 with the opening of two TJ Maxx stores in Massachusetts. If you’re really interested in the history – including why it’s TJ Maxx in the US and Canada but TK Maxx in Europe – then you can read all about it here.

The important bit is that we launched TK Maxx in Europe in 1994 and followed that with Homesense in 2008. The stores quickly became market leaders in a number of European countries.

We now have 547 stores across Europe as well as a successful online retail business. We’re growing at a fantastic pace globally and TJX Europe is one of our key channels for growth. This all makes TJX Europe the perfect place to launch your career.

Where we are
Our European head office is in Watford – just 20 minutes from London and half an hour from Heathrow.

Where we’re going
At TJX, we’re all geared up to expect the unexpected with an unconventional business model that means we’re ready to seize any opportunities. It’s something we train and encourage in our associates too. We’re an international business, so there are openings for your career in a range of different countries across Europe. Maybe even further afield. With our support, you’ll be perfectly placed to launch a truly international career.

So if you’ve lived or worked in Europe, or you have a real passion to increase your European exposure, then we’d love to hear from you to help support us with our journey.

We’re focused on our future. But we recognise that we can only grow by helping our associates to grow – so we’re equally focused on your future. At the same time, we’re confident that you’ll benefit from our heritage and forty years of global retailing experience.

All in all, this means we can offer you one of the most exciting and inspiring European graduate careers available – so come and find out how TJX Europe can work for you.

What is it like to work at TJX Europe?
Working for a business that puts so much emphasis on personal development means that not only am I given new challenges that provide great learning curves, I also get to help the business to grow and be successful. The unique culture here at TJX is always fun and relaxed, but also focused on delivering results through great partnerships and leveraging our off-price model in everything we do.

I joined TJX Europe in 2009 as a store Loss Prevention Investigator in Central London. I quickly developed within my team and before I knew it, I was promoted and managing a team across South London. I was again promoted to District Loss Prevention Manager in the South East of England covering three counties and 24 stores before moving into the distribution and supply chain function to start a new and exciting role managing loss prevention for E-commerce.

I am always looking for new ways to develop myself and achieve my personal ambitions. Luckily for me, TJX is focused on developing its people and supports me to find new ways to challenge myself and increase my responsibility.

How much responsibility are you given?
I now look after two exciting parts of the organisation within loss prevention - E-commerce and supply chain. E-commerce is growing fast at TJX and it is my responsibility to design and develop a strategy to minimise loss and resolve complex fraud throughout an ever-changing digital world. The supply chain, however, is integral to the success of our off-price model and it is my responsibility to manage a team of investigators across Europe to ensure we move our merchandise from vendor to store in a quick, secure and loss-free way.

What is a typical working day like?
Every day really is different in loss prevention. It isn't just about stores, we have processing centres, supply chain buildings, and a head office department to reduce loss in… and that's before we get to the growing number of stores across seven countries.

I could be leading a complex investigation into a serious or organised crime that has occurred, working with one of our many external partners to improve operational compliance at one of our supply chain storage facilities, influencing a change in our contract terms with a third party logistics provider, or meeting with a member of our senior leadership team to discuss my strategy for reducing loss and improving profit in their part of the organisation.

Describe TJX Europe in 3 words
Fast-paced, International, Exciting

What is it like to work at TJX Europe?
It's never boring. And everyone is very nice. It's sounds very cliched, but is actually true. The fast pace of the business offers a lot variety, and there is always a new challenge around the corner. However, you're never alone. Teamwork is key, and everyone is happy to help and answer all your questions. This doesn't only apply to your immediate team - there is always a friendly face in the coffee queue who would love to talk to you.

How much responsibility are you given?
Everyone trusts you from your first day. If you feel comfortable enough, you can make your own decisions and own your business right away. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. In TJX, we make them and learn from them. Everybody gets very excited about a little "sweaty palms" situation.

Tell me about the training you received when you joined?
We started with a great three months of induction training. We got to know our unique business model, the systems, and met a lot of people from across the business during that time. I loved the field trips to different stores and one of our huge processing centres. After this, I spent my time on department together with my team. Even in your day-to-day job, the training never ends. As we keep learning, we receive new training for every new job role. Additionally, we can attend self-development courses and lots of other projects to keep moving within the business.

After my training in Watford I started in one of our satellite offices in Dusseldorf as an Allocation Analyst. Within 16 months I was promoted to Senior Analyst and Assistant Merchandiser. I recently relocated to Watford, which is certainly one of the most exciting stages of my life so far. Working abroad was always a goal and the internationality of TJX is very exciting. In the future I'd like to get to know some other functions in the business - there are so many things to discover.
