Why Fidelity?
We want working at Fidelity to be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for all of our employees. We value hard work but not at the expense of well-being. We understand the importance of a work-life balance. You won’t be valued for the amount of hours you’ve done, but for the quality and outcome of your work.

We don’t seek quick wins. We craft, construct and create value by balancing risk with reward. This approach is why we are so well-respected within the finance industry.

We have a leading global research network with broad bottom-up asset class coverage, global aggregation & top-down forecasting by sector and region, and macro & quant research.

At Fidelity, the work you do will influence change and actually make people's dreams achievable. It is worthwhile work, and you too will grow along the way.

Our Values:

We take personal responsibility for always acting in the best interests of our clients. The client is at the heart of all we do, a value that goes far beyond our client facing employees and is paramount in every department and country we work in.

We believe in being willing to experiment with new and better ways to serve our customers. We pride ourselves on intelligent risk taking and rewarding those who take the initiative to introduce fresh ideas and original thinking.

Fidelity employees strive to be the best whilst knowing that continuous improvement means we will get better each time. Our culture of excellence means that we will always aim for the best client outcomes and to be supportive of our colleagues.

Diversity at Fidelity:
In promoting a culture of inclusion throughout our business we are proud to be a Stonewall Diversity Champion campaigning for LGBT+ equality. We are also committed to ensuring employees of all genders and ethnicities are represented throughout our business as part of Business in the Community’s Race and Gender campaigns, and as a member of Fonds Frauen, a women’s network in German Financial Services. Working alongside these organisations ensures that we continue to provide a workplace where our employees can bring their whole selves to work.

One of the ways we promote an inclusive culture is through our Diversity and Inclusion Network – Fidelity for Everyone. The Network has branches in our main global offices and is open to all. The Network is made up of employees from across our business and focuses on raising awareness of Diversity and Inclusion through speaker events and activities. We also host networking events and provide opportunities for people to let us know how we can improve.

Alongside our global Diversity and Inclusion activities, Fidelity International has signed up to the HM Treasury ‘Women in Finance Charter’.

Case Studies

  • Name: Edward Leane
  • Role: Equity Research Intern
  • University: Durham University

What are your day-to-day responsibilities?
The first 10 days or so are spent in training. But after we get our first stock, we quickly settle into a routine. Our day is predominantly spent working on our stock pitch which has 3 key parts - Thesis, Valuation and Model. Besides that we usually have a lunch and learn – where a senior members from a different area of the firm give us an hour of their time to discuss what they do and any knowledge they would like to impart upon is - all over good food.

Additional activities include social, intern or networking events and some quirky things that pop up on a weekly basis.

In the simplest terms possible, what is the purpose of your department within Fidelity?
The role of the Equity Research department is to run analysis on companies in order to provide good investment ideas to the portfolio managers.

What do you enjoy the most about working at Fidelity?
The internship is as close as you can get to what the role as an analyst would be like. You will not be serving as an overflow valve for random bits of work - you have a purpose and a structure, that being very highly correlated with the actual job of an analyst at Fidelity.

What is the best thing about working in Equity Research?
Great culture. From PM to intern there is a culture of respect and of collaboration. You can freely walk into a PM’s office (if they’re free) to ask for help with a term/angle or whatever your question may be.

The internship is short but action packed - you get a full insight of what Fidelity has to offer (and your qualities from their perspective) but do not sacrifice a whole summer in doing so.
