According to a recent study, graduates should consider Sheffield the best value for their money.
A new study by The House Shop reveals that Sheffield is the best destination for graduates in the UK. By analysing average graduate salaries, house prices, rent costs and other outgoings, the website has determined Sheffield is able to offer university leavers their best value for money.
A key factor in the cost of living is housing. Rent on a two bedroom flat in the South Yorkshire city reportedly runs around £667, while similar properties in London run upwards of £2007 more per month.
The study also looked at the cost of other key graduate living expenses-such as beer. Graduates in London spend on average £3.97 per pint, while in the Steel City university leavers can expect to pay as little as £2.70.
Co-Founder of The House Shop, Nick Marr, says graduates can find better value in the north.
"Our graduate hotspots research definitely reinforces the North-South divide, and it's good news for the Northern powerhouses," he says.
"I think a lot of people assume that London is the best place to be a graduate, and droves of students flock to the capital each year. However, it may be the time to look further afield for real value."
Nick says Sheffield should be considered by university leavers as it has so much to offer.
"Sheffield has been the big winner here, with the perfect combination of low rents, affordable house prices, good graduate starting salaries, cheap pints and plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants, clubs and bars to keep new graduates entertained."
