I graduated 3 weeks ago with a BSc (2:1 Hons) in Sociology and am really interested in taking part in a retail graduate scheme. The only problem is most of these schemes require a full driving license which I don't have yet. Do you think I will be penalised if I apply next year instead of the year I graduated?

Not at all Alex! First of all, you have a very good degree. Get in there and tell them that you are prepared to start your driving lessons as soon as possible. Not all of these schemes require that you be in possession of a Driver's License anyway, although it does help. I have worked in retail before having graduated as a mature student. Do not limit yourself and apply for both Store and Head Office positions. I wish you all the best!
