Case Studies

  • Name: Dan
  • Role: Associate Software Engineer
  • University: University of Birmingham
  • Degree: Computer Science

I joined Websense for three main reasons, the challenging and rewarding role, the Reading office’s convenient, riverside location and the relaxed and friendly atmosphere – I can wear my jeans to work and feel at home.

The Associate Software Development Engineer role stretches my programming skills and gives me exposure to programming languages which I wouldn’t otherwise have come into contact with. Across the development team we follow Agile methodology. Our projects are divided into three-week sprints. Our sprint meetings, where we meet as a team to discuss the sprint plans, are one of my favourite parts of the job – it could have something to do with the free pizza!

I’m responsible for writing code which will run on Websense servers all over the world. It’s exciting to be in a role which has such a big impact but it’s a big responsibility as well so it keeps me on my toes. I feel like the skills I’m learning now will mean I’ll be able to handle anything in my future career.

  • Name: Chloe
  • Role: Inside Sales Representative
  • University: Bournemouth University
  • Degree: Retail Management

After graduation I was keen to start a career where I could use the business knowledge which I’d gained as part of my degree, it was important to me that the company I worked for recognised good performance and had flexible career opportunities. A friend of mine had recently received a promotion in his Sales role at Websense and spoke really highly about team and the company. As soon as I heard there was opening in the Sales team I applied.

I joined Websense as an Inside Sales Associate. In this position I was responsible for reaching out to small businesses who weren’t yet Websense customers and allowing them to see how the Websense security solutions could benefit their business. After a successful first year I was promoted into an Inside Sales Representative position which bought with it more responsibility and increased earning potential. I now look after larger sized customers who are already Websense customers. I nurture their accounts and provide an ongoing account management service.

I really enjoy being part of the Websense team, this is down to the people, the social aspect and the support within the team and across the company as a whole. Lots of my friends within Sales have been promoted internally. To me, this is proof that the company are committed to investing in us. It’s exciting working in an industry that is so relevant to modern day life and so frequently in the news. Not only am I in a job that I enjoy, I’m helping all my customers’ protect what’s important to them.

My long term goal is to win a place on the annual Presidents Club trip and to close my first million dollar deal.
