TUI UK is the largest tourism company in the UK. We are the UK's leading holiday company which is a position we have held consistently for over 30 years. We sell millions of holidays each year through the Thomson brand and other household name brands such as Portland, Skytours and Crystal.

This is a really exciting time for the Company as we have just brought together the airline -Thomsonfly, the tour operating and specialist areas of our business to ensure we meet all the travel needs of our customers. We are constantly moving forward to ensure we are market leaders and are one step ahead of the competition.

Training & Profiles

Within your first week with the Company you will be performing a role in one of our key Divisions. There will be a structured programme but you will do much of your learning ‘on the job' supported by your colleagues and a manager who will be a specialist in their area.

There will also be development opportunities to help improve your generic skills and you will visit other areas of the Company which will broaden your knowledge of the business and the industry, helping you to succeed in your role. Work related projects will be set which relate to live issues within your department. Regular reviews will be held with your manager which will give you the opportunity to discuss your progress and aspirations and the objectives you will need to achieve. On successful completion of the programme, you will have a role in the Division you have been based in.

Most of the Divisions taking part in the programme are based in our new Head Office near Luton Airport but we have offices all over the country so there is an expectation that you will spend time in other locations predominantly our Coventry base. There will also be an opportunity to work in a Thomson shop and call centre and you may get to experience life behind the scenes overseas.

The Divisions
A number of our key Divisions are taking part in the programme in 2006 and the information below should give you a taster as to what they do.

Finance
The Finance Division is an integral element of the Company with responsibility for meeting the accounting, reporting, management information and financial processing needs of TUI UK.

We are organised into teams which support the tour operating, distribution, head office and airline functions of the business and our key priority is to ensure that all areas are provided with timely and accurate information to enable the right decisions to be made on a daily basis.

Minimum requirement - 2:2 Accounting related degree (Finance)

Planning & Trading
Planning is all about creating a wide range of mainstream and specialist holidays for our discerning customers. We are split into teams which specialise in geographic areas and make decisions on which hotels to feature in our programme, what the brief for purchasing requirements should be and what price should be in the brochure.

Trading focuses on the concept of effective yield management, which means selling the right product, to the right customer, at the right time, for the right price, through the correct distribution channel.

We are looking for people with a high degree of numeracy and an ability to work with numbers.

The Airline
Thomsonfly flies millions of people across the world every year and has recognised the changing needs of travellers and holiday makers in the UK and throughout Europe. Thomsonfly is made up of four key areas; Cabin Services, Operations, Engineering and The Flight Safety Team, which together ensure our customers receive the highest quality of service on every flight. Cabin Services consists of around 1700 cabin crew and our In-flight Retail and Catering Team who together have become one of the leading retailers within the world of aviation.

Operations are the heart of the airline managing our flights 24/7 and working with our professional team of pilots, training teams and the Airport Services Team who are all based at our UK airports. Engineering employ over 400 engineers with teams who maintain our fleet of 48 Boeing Aircraft to the highest standard. And finally, the Flight Safety Team support the airline behind the scenes ensuring that the safety of our passengers and maintaining our excellent record.

IT

The IT Division is split into several different areas but the programme will be run within the Web Development Team. We are responsible for creating and building the TUI UK online presence. The continued development of the leading travel website www.thomson.co.uk is vital as people grow more at ease with online booking and tailor making their own holiday experience. We are multi-skilled and work in a busy and lively environment predominately based in our Coventry office.

Minimum requirement - Computer Science or Technical related degree (IT)

The process:

  • If we think you have got what it takes to be a manager of the future, we will call you for an initial telephone interview
  • You may then be invited to an assessment day, at which you will participate in individual and group exercises. These assessments will take place in May
  • Those who do well on the day will be asked to attend an interview with key managers from your chosen Division
  • The programme commences in September 2006
