Company Company Profile

The Multidisciplinary Master’s (MDM)* is a new course for September 2014 entry and is the first postgraduate course of its kind in the country. Working with the guidance of a tutor, MDM students create their own bespoke master’s level programme, by selecting modules from different subject areas and Schools across the University. All MDM students study an additional core module, aimed at building relevant academic and professional skills, before completing an in-company placement with an industry partner. Here you will undertake a work-based project, gaining valuable work experience in your chosen field.

Although the nature of the course is bespoke, all students will follow the same structure to ensure the academic rigour expected at postgraduate level is met. The course of study will total 180 credit points.

Core module (20 credit points)

This module underpins the Multidisciplinary Master's course. Students will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to work in a range of disciplines. The module will cover subject areas like team roles, leadership, creativity and project management. Ultimately, students will be brought together to work on a live multidisciplinary project.

Major modules (60 credit points)

You will choose one major discipline from across NTU. This will take the form of one, two or three modules grouped to form a field of study. Whether you graduate with an MA or MSc will depend on which School and major discipline you specialise in.

Minor modules (40 credit points)

The minor modules allow students the flexibility to explore other interests and subjects which will enhance their career. This will likely be in the form of two modules

Work based project (60 credit points)

This provides students with a three to six month in-company placement which relates to their major. With the support of a tutor the student will develop a unique project based on their workplace and academic study.

This course is tailored towards producing graduates who are well rounded, responsive and have an outstanding, advanced knowledge base. The development of this unique skills set, as well as the experience gained during your industry placement, will ensure that you are ready to take the next step in your career.
