Description:

Prior to joining Periscopix, do you feel that you were fully prepared for what was to come?
I was about as prepared as I could have been! By the time you come in for your first day you already know about the new joiner process through your interviews and assessment day so there aren’t any big surprises. The recruitment team are great at making sure you’ve got all the information you need before starting and helping you settle in once you arrive too. The most important thing to remember if you’ve got any nerves, is that everyone starts in the same place!

What can a new joiner expect in their first week?
A new joiner can expect the first week to fly by! You’ll meet your buddies on the first day – these guys are here to help you settle in, take you for lunch and generally be there for you when you need them. You’ll get your training schedule early on – don’t worry, you’ll definitely wander into the wrong meeting room a few times, but people will be happy to point you in the right direction. There will be homework set from these training sessions but you’re not meant to do them at home, they’re more assignments to do whilst you’re at your desk. These are really valuable for practicing the skills you are taught in training and consolidating ideas.

How are you finding the training process in Academy (our specialist training team) as a whole?
The training in academy is really comprehensive and covers everything you need to feel confident in running your own accounts. It’s quite intense at the beginning with assignments from each session but you get some really valuable feedback that you should keep in mind for your future work. It can be daunting when you’re told that you will get clients within your first month or so, but you’ll have plenty of support and by that time, you will be ready! You might find that your workload is light at times, but at that stage you will often get asked to support other account managers with build work, which is really good practice for when you do your own.

Both the Programmatic and Analytics teams also offer comprehensive training. Everyone in the company is an expert in their field.

What did you enjoy the most during your time in the Academy?
The realisation a few weeks in that you actually know so much more than you did at the beginning was a great feeling! The atmosphere in the office is brilliant and the culture is such that everyone is really friendly and welcoming and helps each other out; you find yourself absorbing things just from what’s going on around you. The socials have been great too – bubble football has definitely been one of the highlights so far!

Training & Profiles

We offer an in depth 3 month training programme upon joining and encourage continuous learning throughout your time at Periscopix. You will need to be an enthusiastic and well organised self-starter. As far as possible we aim to leave people to organise their own time, so you must be able to plan and prioritise effectively but also recognise potential problems and seek help where needed.

Previous experience in our sector is not required but you must be articulate and confident in dealing directly with clients in a wide range of roles and organisations. Strong written English is essential, as you will be communicating extensively via email and preparing reports for clients.

THE INTERVIEW PROCESS
We’ve asked one of the newest additions of our Programmatic Team to talk you through the interview process.

Can you tell us a bit about the interview process at Merkle | Periscopix?
The first stage telephone interview was a great opportunity to show what I knew about the industry while getting to ask a few questions to learn a bit more about Merkle | Periscopix. After this, I travelled to London for an interview day. I had the chance to see the office and meet some lovely people, getting involved in some fun group tasks and answering some pretty interesting pre-prepared questions about myself. Finally, the last interview in the process involved coming back to the office and presenting a PowerPoint Presentation on the topic provided. For my presentation, I was given a company which I had to design a Programmatic campaign idea for, this meant I got to experience a snippet of what I would be doing as Programmatic Display Account Manager. You would do the same if you were interviewing for an Analytics or PPC role but your campaign would be tailored to that instead of Programmatic like mine. The interview preparation was the perfect start to what I’d be doing at Merkle | Periscopix, it creates a great foundation for the training to build upon.

How did you prepare for the interviews?
I started to research as much as I could into the industry and programmatic (researching the part of the industry you’re applying to is key!). I looked at all sorts of information – I researched articles and YouTube videos to deepen my understanding of Programmatic. What I found most useful were the great blogs written by the staff here at Merkle | Periscopix.

What advice would you offer graduates thinking of joining Merkle | Periscopix?
If you’re finishing University and want to carry on constantly learning & growing while being part of a very quick, interesting and dynamic industry, then Merkle | Periscopix is for you. It doesn’t matter if you’re about to graduate or finished studying a few years ago and fancy getting into digital marketing, there’s plenty of opportunity to join the fast-growing team! I joined with a guy who worked in a travel agency before.

The roles here are specialist so it’s important that you’ve taken the time to do your research and are sure this is where you want to build your career. Have a think beforehand about your genuine interests and these will shine throughout the interview process. Research into the department you’re applying to and other surrounding departments as cross-department collaboration is important. Ask all questions that interest you, everyone at Merkle | Periscopix are super nice and will love telling you all about it!

coolest thing you've done in your job since starting?
The coolest thing would be starting to get involved with huge clients - household names that impress everyone I speak to. I’ve enjoyed starting to use my training and the foundation knowledge I gained from the interview process to being part of a team that are running such big and interesting accounts.

How are you now finding the role?
I am learning a vast amount very quickly; I’m getting to grips with all of the Google Platforms and the great tools that have been produced in-house! The training and projects are interesting and the socials are a lot of fun. I was very happy to find that Merkle | Periscopix have a 5-aside football team every Tuesday, this has helped me settle into the social seen as well as the job role. As client work starts to trickle into my day-to-day life and the training schedule slowly filters out I’m very excited for the next stage of my role.
