John Lewis Partnership

John Lewis Partnership 2024 graduate opportunities}

Company Company Profile

The John Lewis Partnership is a multi-award winning retail business and incorporates two of the high street’s most renowned brands – John Lewis and Waitrose. But we’re so much more than that. We combine traditional values with all that’s modern to respond to customers’ needs. That’s why we’re now an omni-channel business – which makes our growing online presence as impressive as our high street activity.

Our commitment to innovation and outstanding customer service is part of what makes the John Lewis Partnership so different. But perhaps the most unique aspect is that when you join us you become a Partner. This means you own a share in the business and get to have a say in how it’s run.

But in return, we expect a lot. Adapting to and loving change, driving performance, taking decisive action, inspiring ownership, working right across boundaries, acting with courage and developing talent are all things we look for (along with specific generalist or specialist skills of course). And that’s simply because, as co-owners, we care more. So we give more. From graduate to Partner in one move. That’s progress. That’s the John Lewis Partnership.

Why you chose JL grad scheme

Both before and during university I worked in various retail roles which sparked my interest in the industry. I love shopping in John Lewis as a customer and whilst at university I had heard a lot about the graduate schemes and that John Lewis was a good company to work for. I spent a year after university working for a small company which was a great experience but it made me realise that I wanted to be on a graduate scheme with a larger company that would provide industry recognised training and a strong foundation to build my career from.

which scheme you are on

JLP Technology Scheme in the John Lewis division.

What you are doing now

I am currently in India for the international placement which is part of the Technology Scheme. I have spent the last month in Chennai working with one of our third parties learning about testing and how we work with offshore teams. This has been a great opportunity to learn more about this aspect of our business and gain a deep understanding of conducting business offshore. Prior to my placement in India I was working on a small java development project which is due to be rolled out in branches over the next few months.

A bit about your experience and advice for applicants?

I have really enjoyed my first year in the business, one of my favourite aspects of the scheme is that it provides the opportunity to be involved in other areas of the business beyond your scheme and build strong relationships with graduates across the Partnership. Specifically within the Technology scheme the rotational nature has allowed me to gain experience and skills in different areas. In the first year I have worked as a Business Analyst, Technical Analyst, Java Developer and Test Analyst. The main piece of advice I would give to candidates looking to apply to the scheme is that it is a great opportunity to develop a wide range of skills within IT whilst maintaining a strong business and retail focus.
