Company Company Profile

The General Medical Council helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they are not met.

We are always on the lookout for talented and passionate people to join us in protecting patients and improving medical education and practice across the UK. We believe that every patient should receive a high standard of care, and we help achieve that by working closely with doctors, their employers and patients.

At the GMC, you’ll find a career in a stimulating workplace, with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, and opportunities to develop and progress – in an organisation that really makes a difference.

Now is an exciting time to join us. We are making major changes to help us work more effectively in future, and be fast and flexible in responding to new challenges. As part of this, we are moving more than 100 posts to our head office in Manchester, opening up many opportunities if you’re based in the northwest.

Application Procedure

FAQs

How do I apply for a vacancy?
You'll normally be asked to complete an online application form together with our equal opportunities monitoring form. For certain jobs you’ll be asked to upload your CV and a covering letter. Specific details will be provided for each vacancy.

Will I be informed if my application is unsuccessful?
Yes. We will contact you at each stage of the recruitment process to advise you of the outcome of your application. You can also keep up to date with the status of your application by logging onto your profile and viewing your ‘application history’.

I have been unsuccessful - can I request feedback?
If you haven’t been successful then you can ask for feedback. You should email recruitment@gmc-uk.org. We will provide this in writing within six weeks of your request. Due to our current high volumes of recruitment it may take us longer than this to provide feedback.

After I have made an application what is the next stage of the process?
You’ll receive an email to confirm that we’ve received your application. We will then do shortlisting and if your application meets our criteria, we will invite you to attend a selection event.

The assessment depends on the role but you may be asked to participate in some of the following:

• A competency-based interview

• Psychometric testing

• A group discussion

• A written test

• A case study or a role play

For some roles, there may be a second stage interview.
