What are your day-to-day responsibilities?
The first 10 days or so are spent in training. But after we get our first stock, we quickly settle into a routine. Our day is predominantly spent working on our stock pitch which has 3 key parts - Thesis, Valuation and Model. Besides that we usually have a lunch and learn – where a senior members from a different area of the firm give us an hour of their time to discuss what they do and any knowledge they would like to impart upon is - all over good food.

Additional activities include social, intern or networking events and some quirky things that pop up on a weekly basis.

In the simplest terms possible, what is the purpose of your department within Fidelity?
The role of the Equity Research department is to run analysis on companies in order to provide good investment ideas to the portfolio managers.

What do you enjoy the most about working at Fidelity?
The internship is as close as you can get to what the role as an analyst would be like. You will not be serving as an overflow valve for random bits of work - you have a purpose and a structure, that being very highly correlated with the actual job of an analyst at Fidelity.

What is the best thing about working in Equity Research?
Great culture. From PM to intern there is a culture of respect and of collaboration. You can freely walk into a PM’s office (if they’re free) to ask for help with a term/angle or whatever your question may be.

The internship is short but action packed - you get a full insight of what Fidelity has to offer (and your qualities from their perspective) but do not sacrifice a whole summer in doing so.
