Spanish Sales Representative

I wanted to find a job where I could use my language skills on a daily basis and also further my interest and knowledge in the financial markets. Bloomberg is the perfect fit.

Starting as an intern in the Sales team, I got a fantastic overview of the company and decided that Sales would allow me to pursue an exciting career in the industry. I began a full time role in the Global Customer Support Team (GCUS) providing customer support to clients worldwide.

Soon I progressed into our Analytics department where I assisted clients in solving more complex financial questions. I became an expert on the BLOOMBERG TERMINALâ„¢ and gained the necessary knowledge to join the Sales team. My training was extensive and our in-house experts were on hand for any questions I had.

I now work on a team looking after Spanish clients. This means I travel to Spain two or three times a month to develop existing relationships and prospect for new clients. It is vital I keep up-to-date with financial news and communicate enhancements on the BLOOMBERG PROFESSIONAL® service to my clients. This is a highly customer facing role and I feel I am making a real contribution to the business.

  • Name: Niamh McMahon
  • Role: Global Customer Support Team Leader
  • University: Trinity College Dublin
  • Degree: BA Economics

I joined Bloomberg in August just after graduating from Trinity College in Dublin. I had studied Economics and was keen to get exposure to the financial markets in a client facing role. The Bloomberg Sales training program immediately appealed to me due to the great training opportunities and international diversity the company offered. I began in our global Customer support department fielding calls from around the world and helping our clients resolve their business needs. It was a great way to develop my knowledge of the company, our clients and the Bloomberg Professional service. Immediately I loved the vibrant atmosphere in the department and really felt that my opinion and input was valued.

After 3 months I was taking control of our front desk and after 5 months I became a Team Leader in GCUS! It has been so amazing to get management experience in such a large and vibrant company especially so soon out of university. I am still looking to go to sales but in a company like Bloomberg with so many opportunities along the way- what's the rush?

  • Name: Ahmed Hassan
  • Role: Equity Researcher - Middle East Earnings & Fundamentals
  • University: University of Kingston, London
  • Degree: BA (Honors) Business Management (Specialized in Finance)

I joined Bloomberg in February 2006 after working for HSBC Bank plc. Prior to that I had graduated from the University Of Kingston where I studied Business Management and specialized in Finance for my final year. This triggered my hunger for the world of finance and its diversity. The Bloomberg Middle East equity research position immediately appealed to me as it enabled me to exploit my language skills and finance knowledge/experience to develop the product and Bloomberg' s coverage in the Middle East.

The diversity of the role is excellent, one hour I could be analyzing the financial reports of a bank in Dubai and the other I could be calculating a selection of Bahraini company's period earnings. There is always a variety of things to do, learn or people to contact or meet.

After 4 months I have developed tremendously, through attending a variety of seminars, training sessions and workshops I have improved my product knowledge greatly and have increased my skill base. Bloomberg stimulates you to always move forward and achieve, so why not take advantage of this opportunity and develop?
