Explore the limits of technology and discover the unexpected

We create and maintain bespoke software products that help our customers protect national security – both at home and overseas.

From start to finish, you’ll be involved in the whole process, creating a wide range of components whilst working with a variety of customers and other engineers. You’ll have the freedom to be creative and work in your own way to make sure the finished product is the best it can be.

Working alongside a team of Developers, you’ll design systems, understand your users and configure and manage virtual and physical hardware. Whether in the Secure Communications team, or the Android Security team, your work will deliver impact here unlike anywhere else.

Technical skills

We use the DDaT Infrastructure Engineer Role. That means we need you to already be able to:

•    Design, configure, code (where necessary) infrastructure components and systems.
•    Deploy physical or virtual infrastructure without supervision.
•    Understand the fundamental components of infrastructure in one eco-system, e.g., Windows servers and roles, Linux equivalents or cloud services that fulfil the same responsibilities.

These are desirable – they’d strengthen your application:

•    Experience of Continuous Integration and Delivery pipeline technologies.
•    Experience of automation and infrastructure as code technologies such as Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, PowerShell etc.
•    Qualifications or experience of networking fundamentals such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP etc. which may include Cloud certifications, Cisco qualifications, a Degree or in-role experience.

Your Personal skills

•    You love learning. You’re always improving both your technical and non-technical skills.
•    You work well with other skilled engineers, combining your collective knowledge to produce better results.
•    You see things through to the end. You’ve got the drive to finish projects to a high standard without getting stuck on adding extra features.
•    You enjoy coming up with innovative solutions to hard problems. And you know when to step away from best practice.
•    You’re always on top of your workload. You can adapt to changing demands on your time.
•    You recognise high performance when you see it in others – and you encourage them to build on their strengths.
•    You can put a plan in place to make improvements.
•    You know how to work with customers to clearly understand what they need and what they expect.

Putting your skills to use

Using your skills and knowledge, you’ll:

•    Design, develop and document infrastructure systems to the highest standards.
•    Verify designs by creating and implementing functional tests and integration tests.
•    Support products and investigate reported issues.
•    Contribute to project planning and meetings.
•    Coach and mentor junior colleagues.
•    Take technical ownership of modules through their lifetime.

What we offer

Now that we’ve explained a bit about what you’ll be doing, here’s what we can offer you:

•    25 days’ annual leave, rising to 30 after 5 years’ service.
•    8 Bank Holiday days off in addition to your annual leave.
•    2½ additional days leave (set dates through the year).
•    3 days paid leave a year to support a registered charity of your choice.
•    Paid overtime or Time Off in Lieu. Your salary is for your contracted hours. If you work more, and sometimes it’s needed, we believe you should be rewarded for that.
•    Training. Lots of training. This can be anything from a half day internal course to a distant learning degree. If it’s relevant to your career, we will aim to support you.
•    Pension. Our Pension scheme is Alpha. It’s generous and easy to set up.
•    Sports & Social Society. Classic cars or baking. Golf or crafting. Or something in between, we have a society for you.

•    Free parking.
•    Free on-site gym, open 24 hours a day.
•    Relocation Package.*
