We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team in the position of Materials Graduate.

To gain an understanding and experience of materials development within the Company. This is to enable the continuity of our existing product offer and development of new materials solutions across the Forterra portfolio. Our ambition is to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and development of new materials solutions is critical to achievement of our goals. The role will also be part of the Forterra Graduate Programme and will gain significant experience through cross-functional exposure and on the job training.

This position will be involved in providing support and direction to the Materials Development Team and wider product development group to aid in the development of new novel solutions. The role holder will play an active part in driving improvement through both lab and site activities, linked to the development of business plans, the design and delivery of key processes and fulfilling the strategic objectives of the future business.

Your duties would include but not limited to the following;

To gain management responsibility experience through a series of secondments on key Forterra sites over a period of 2 years, the role includes but is not limited to:

  • Project Management and delivery, encompassing all the stages of project development from project inception, project delivery, through to reporting of the results and recommendations to the Senior Management Team.
  • Learning and reporting how the groups management systems operator from the Factory Floor to Strategic Management Level.
  • Playing a key part in the implementation of key materials projects and working towards fulfilling the objectives of the operational sites.
  • It is expected that the Graduate will complete business projects throughout the process implementing the knowledge and experience gained during the placements.
  • The Graduate will liaise and work with members of staff at all levels to gain a greater understanding of how the wider business functions and how that relates to their specific study area. The role will be focussed in the Materials Development Team, but will be rotated through the various functions to gain experience with a variety of materials and processes.
  • At the end of the secondment to have a position within a materials or product development role.

About you;

  • The ideal candidate will need to be a recent graduate having studied a relevant degree
  • A problem-solving mentality, to assist in creating complaint solutions to issues
  • Be proactive and take accountability for any projects and tasks assigned
  • Tenacious and resilient, to deal with the challenges presented
  • Possess good people skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision
  • Strong presentation skills, demonstrating an ability to communicate with staff at all levels
  • Excellent general IT skills plus the ability to assist with the operation and management of our electronic integrated management system
  • Full driving licence and the ability to travel to various sites across the UK
  • A 2:1 degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Civil Engineering or Geology/Geoscience
