Health Physics at Babcock

Any kind of nuclear engineering is complex, but when you’re working on the newest class of submarines in the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) fleet, you’re faced with new challenges every day. As part of a team of people with lots of different skills, you’ll make sure that the site’s safety arrangements are always up to scratch.

What you'll need

  • A BSc (Hons) degree in a science subject.
  • Any kind of postgraduate qualification in this area, such as an MSc or PG (Dip) in Radiological Protection, would be very useful.
  • Many of our early careers roles are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which roles you are eligible for. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). For our early careers roles, you must be able to achieve BPSS and many of them require you to be eligible for Security Clearance.

Where you'll be based

Places on our Health Physics programme for Autumn 2024 are available in our Nuclear sector in Plymouth. We ask our graduates to be flexible as there is the potential to undertake placements in other locations during their programme.

Our business in Plymouth works in partnership with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and Royal Navy at HM Naval Base Devonport. We provide through-life support for submarines, surface ships and associated systems and equipment as part of our continuing commitment to support our nation’s naval capability.

Depending on your programme, your home base could be Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth. However, some of your placements may be at other sites.
