Job Description
Collegiate Management Services Limited (Collegiate) is an underwriting
and claims managing general agent (MGA) specialising in professional
indemnity insurance in the UK. Collegiate is a wholly owned subsidiary
of AMT Intermediaries Limited (AMT), forming part of AmTrust
International.
We are a niche business specialising in Professional Negligence
insurance primarily for all types of UK profession. We both underwrite
risks and handle claims, acting for a number of leading insurers. We
require an additional Claims Handler to help us with our workload. The
role’s primary purpose is to manage a portfolio of negligence claims and
law suits on behalf of insurers, which includes:
- Liaising with insured firms to understand the nature of a dispute, assess liability and consider policy coverage
- Preparation of claim reports
- Establishing and updating reserve estimates
- Referring policy coverage issues to insurer
- Handling of correspondence between insured, broker, insurer and claimant
- Preparation of defence and assisting insured with letters where required
- Instructing solicitors to assist in the defence of claims and managing any subsequent litigation
- Consulting Claims Director/Senior Claims Handlers on difficult cases or where sums claimed are large
- Meeting service standards, operating within any delegated authority provided by insurer
- Negotiating settlement of cases
- Reporting to underwriters and brokers
- Carrying out peer reviews
- Checking offer approval forms
- Assisting in marketing the department to potential clients
- Preparation of articles for use in promoting the claims handling service and supporting underwriting effort
Candidate requirements
- Law degree, preferably 2:1, and 3 “A” levels of at least grade C
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
- Strong commercial approach with ability to build great relationships with colleagues, insureds and the insurance market
- High level of initiative and self-motivation
- Willingness and quickness to learn
- Flexible with ability to multitask
- Computer literate
No experience of financial services necessary.
