An intern at a global bank has thanked her mentor for the support she received during her time at HSBC.
HSBC is a global banking and financial services company and a leader in its field. An intern, who spent time at the organisation, has thanked her mentor for the support and the career advice she received during her stay.
Freya joined HSBC in Hong Kong on their Commercial Banking Internship and says her mentor helped her learn more about the bank's business more broadly.
"I originally joined HSBC on the Commercial Banking internship programme in Hong Kong," she says.
"My mentor came from a different business line and this helped me learn about the bank and understand how such a large group operates. The internship gave me a well-rounded view of HSBC and Commercial Banking."
The internship provided Freya with everything she need to know about a career in banking, but it's not easy.
"I had exposure to bank systems, products, customers and working groups,"
"You are on a steep learning curve on the graduate programme. It's hard work but there were some real highlights, such as when all the Commercial Banking graduates networked together in London. I made valuable friendships and I still benefit from the bonds established during that event."
Freya says applicants must seriously think about how their values align with HSBC's.
"The best advice I can give anyone applying to HSBC is to determine if your values match those of the bank. Then think about the roles your personality is suited to – sales or non-sales for example – and finally, understand your reasons for making this choice"
