Who are we?

We are a global reinsurance company, providing our clients in Europe, Asia, Australia and North America with innovative products and services to manage their mortality, morbidity and longevity risks.

Our mission is to support our clients to provide individuals with security for their families should the worst happen and/or certainty around the income they will receive regardless of how long they live. We are backed and supported by our parent company, Pacific Life, which recently celebrated its 150th birthday.

Underlying our philosophy is an intelligent approach to taking risk. By recruiting top quality staff and investing in the latest analytical technologies, we believe we are well placed to make those decisions.

The Team

The European Operations team is based in our London offices right by the iconic Tower Bridge. The team is crucial to our business and plays a significant role in managing our existing in-force business book across both Longevity and Protection products.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for talented individuals who have excellent analytical and technical skills, possess a keen interest in working with data and who want to start a career within the Insurance/Reinsurance industry.

Some of the key responsibilities of being a Reinsurance technician are reviewing reinsurance treaties, conducting data analysis and interpreting the results/arising issues. During our assessment process we will focus on your ability to excel in these activities.

To be successful within the role, you will also need to be a collaborative team player and be able to write fluently in English. Good interpersonal skills and a curious nature will also stand you in good stead – we pride ourselves in thinking differently and so seek people who are not afraid to challenge the norm.

Due to the numeracy required in the role, you must have at least a B grade in a STEM subject at A Level and minimum C grade in your other A levels.

We welcome applications from graduates with any degree background as we work in a hugely dynamic and agile environment and can adapt and tailor your learning and development according to your individual experience and abilities.

What will I be doing?

You will get hands-on experience across a wide range of activities and projects. From a deep understanding of our products and clients, to reviewing and transforming client data, to managing all our stakeholders and your own treaties, you’ll gain a thorough grounding in life reinsurance – including learning what a treaty is!

Your first three to six months will focus on opportunities and activities that will help you learn and develop. This will involve a period of intensive knowledge sharing around our products and internal training courses on our tools, system and processes. By the end of that initial period you will also be working with other teams from around the business to implement and manage your own reinsurance treaties in our new global platform.

We won’t stop investing in you even when you are able to manage the entire life cycle of reinsurance treaties. We will support you as you work through CII or CAA exams and will provide coaching and challenge you alongside your day-to-day work as you start to build your personal portfolio and brand.

What do we expect from you?

We set out to be different, so our company culture is important to us. That’s why we hire top quality people and look after them. In return, we want people who think differently, critically assess how we should do something and aren’t afraid to challenge the norm.

We will be encouraging you to learn new skills and to be brave in applying those skills throughout your career with us. We’re proud to have created an environment where we all collaborate as one team. Often the newest team member has the best idea as they are not constrained by the past. We want everyone to fully contribute and feel empowered to make decisions.

Of course, it’s not all about the work, and we also recognise the importance of reflecting on a job well done and having fun with our colleagues!

Supporting Employees Post Pandemic

Throughout COVID, we invested in providing a high level of support for our employees, winning several awards for our internal pandemic response. This included providing suitable home-working equipment, additional holidays, flexible working options and regular “tea & talk” sessions, as well as weekly virtual yoga and fitness classes and regular virtual social activities. As we move into a post-pandemic world, we want to continue to ensure everyone is looked after and supported. As such, we encourage our employees to work wherever is most appropriate for their day. Whether it’s at home or in the office, we have our Smarter Working guidelines policy to help everyone work more flexibly, whilst maintaining connections with colleagues and being able to collaborate effectively.

Pacific Life Re’s vision is to have a culture that embraces Diversity and Inclusion; where everyone’s views and ideas are valued and where everyone has the same opportunity to fulfil their potential. We strongly believe it’s not just about adding diversity and educating our employees to draw on our differences to change our business, it’s about how well we are listening to – and learning from – the diversity that we already have within the business. We foster open conversations and we are actively training our employees, helping us to unite, learn and grow.
