The recruitment industry is one of the only sectors that was relatively unaffected by the recession a few years ago. In-fact it thrived and continued to expand is now a multi-billion-pound industry. There are now over 30,000 recruitment companies across the UK which differ greatly in size, culture, verticals, horizontals, management and processes of work.
Many graduates never consider going into Recruitment Consultancy when finishing university for a variety of reasons. We have discovered that one of the main reasons is that they don’t want to work in a high pressure, loud, ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ environment. Please be aware that although this may resemble some recruitment companies it does not resemble all of them! A lot of our clients ask for people who are calm, collective, well-spoken and articulate. That doesn’t sound like Jordan Belfort to me?
Another reason is that it’s not as ‘prestigious’ as being a Lawyer, a Financial Analyst, Publicist, etc... Well get your head down for a couple of years and strive to hit your goals and reach your promotions be a Managing Consultant or Director whilst your friends are still aiming trying to climb the career ladder. People in Recruitment normally receive two promotions in their first year!
Another is the long hours and hard work you have to put in to reach the top. Well… if you’re put off by this then recruitment consultancy probably isn’t for you. Recruitment is completely meritocratic and based on performance, the more hours you put in and the more money you make for the company the quicker your next promotion comes and more money you earn. People wanting a 9-5 stay away!
