Description

At MI5, we protect the UK from threats to national security. Working closely with the police, law enforcement and the government, we use a range of methods and technologies to keep the country safe. That’s why we’re looking for innovators with fresh perspectives who can help us achieve our mission. With your enthusiasm and insights, you’ll help shape the future of technology at MI5.

On our Technology Graduate Development Programme, you’ll get real-world experience working across our technology disciplines. Over two years, you’ll gain the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a tech role. With your desire to learn and a genuine passion for technology, you’ll contribute to real projects and bring your ideas to the fore. And, you’ll be fully supported as you develop your abilities and build a meaningful career.

From business analysis, through to software engineering and data science, you’ll explore all that we do. Joining our expert teams, you’ll be encouraged to share your ideas, beliefs and experiences. We’re keen to hear your suggestions, so you’ll quickly see that your input is always valued.

You’ll spend 80% of your time in these placements and 20% as a programme cohort, where you’ll take part in team activities and presentations. You’ll get to know other graduates and, by working collaboratively, you’ll grow in confidence as well as ability. Not only will you receive a mix of on-the-job and formal training, but you’ll also have access to further qualifications funded by MI5.

To join us, you’ll need a genuine interest in technology and have (or be expecting) a 2:2 in a STEM subject by September 2022.

Diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. We welcome applications from people with different backgrounds, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, and disabilities or neurodiverse conditions. We’d be particularly interested to hear from BAME and female applicants, who are currently under-represented in our workforce.

The recruitment and vetting process can take up to nine months to complete. If you are in the final year of your studies, we advise you to apply now.

To be eligible to apply, you must be a British Citizen. One of your parents must be a British Citizen or must have one of the nationalities or citizenships from one of the following: British Overseas territory, British subject, British National (Overseas), British protected person, citizenship of the Commonwealth, EEA nationality, or citizenship of the United States of America. If deceased, have had such citizenship or nationality before death. If you hold dual nationality, of which one component is British, you will nonetheless be considered. If successful, you will not normally be required to give up your non-British citizenship but, as a condition of your employment or secondment, MI5 may impose restrictions on your postings, work travel and/or general use of that nationality. Candidates must normally have been resident in the UK for seven out of the last ten years. This is particularly important if you were born outside the UK. Each case will be carefully considered on its own facts. You can apply at the age of 17 years and 6 months, if successful you will not be offered a start date prior to your 18th birthday. Discretion is vital. You should not discuss your application, other than with your partner or a close family member. Please note, you should only launch your application from within the UK. If you are based overseas, you should wait until you visit the UK to launch an application. Applying from outside of the UK will impact on our ability to progress your application. Further information on our eligibility criteria can be found on the Applying section.
