About us
East Devon is independently recognised as an outstanding place and so it follows that its council must also strive to be outstanding. Everything we do is aimed at ensuring that East Devon is a place that people want to live in, work in, visit and enjoy. Our ambition is to be an outstanding council which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment for East Devon, now and for future generations.
About the role
We are seeking a competent technician with an interest in data analysis and mapping to join our busy planning team. In this interesting role, you will provide the Planning Policy service with technical support to assist the team to meet their priorities and achieve the Council’s objectives.
You will be responsible for researching, assembling and assessing data relevant to planning policy and for undertaking monitoring across East Devon, particularly in respect of development occurring and the manner in which planning policy has been applied. This will include creating, updating and maintaining record systems, generating reports and critically assessing outputs before communicating these back to the team so informed decisions can be made.
This job is being advertised as a full time post but the council will consider applicants that may wish to work part-time hours. The actual hours of work and pattern of work can be flexible and will be agreed at the time of appointment.
About you
With a keen eye for detail and an aptitude for evaluating and interpreting data, you’ll have a good standard of education and excellent communication skills. You will be competent in using IT systems to record and analyse information and have a good working knowledge of Excel and experience in the use of databases; ideally you will also have experience in the use of Geographical Information Systems and a real interest in maps and mapping tasks. Where relevant training will be given.
In addition, you must also have a structured and methodical approach to your work, a genuine interest in the planning process and a desire to learn. A degree or post-graduate qualification in planning or a similar discipline would be an advantage, although this is not essential.
