About the programme

Tax supports our lives, our communities, and our environment in more ways than you may have realised. At EY, our tax teams advise our clients – who are organisations and individuals – on both the simple and complex tax concepts and rules. We act as innovative partners to our clients, offering supportive tax technology. This means that our clients can make the most informed decisions for their operations and futures, manage their tax risk and pay the right amount of tax, all while meeting their societal obligations. It’s a big responsibility – but a challenge you’ll relish. Join one of our Tax graduate programmes and enjoy learning all about the world of tax while laying the foundations for a successful future.

What will you be doing?

  • Working across various specialist tax teams within UK & Ireland (UK&I) or Financial Services (FS).
  • Working directly on technical research alongside senior colleagues.
  • Working alongside audit teams assisting in the review of tax disclosures and other tax items in the accounts.
  • Interacting with global EY teams on tax compliance engagements and gaining an overview of tax requirements worldwide.
  • Building important relationships with clients through meetings and day-to-day work.
  • Coaching and management of onshore junior and offshore resource to facilitate the delivery of your work.

How is it structured?

Work towards becoming a Chartered Accountant with ICAS, ICAEW or through the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification. And balance real projects with study at a college.

Developing your understanding of local and international tax laws is at the heart of this programme. Whether you join our UK and Ireland (UK&I) or Financial Services (FS) teams, you’ll be learning on the job, and enjoy access to coaching and training opportunities with lots of support from your team.

Year one

Your first year will be spent understanding how businesses operate and the tax issues associated with them. You'll also begin studying for your professional qualification. You'll have a lot of support and will build your technical knowledge by assisting seniors with tax work while working alongside offshore support (where relevant).

Years two and three

You'll continue studying for your professional qualification. You will also be gaining invaluable experience through technical tax work and working directly with Managers and above. You will be assisting and delegating work to new joiners and taking on more responsibility on engagements and interacting directly with clients.

Alongside our programme offering, we give you all the training and exposure to real-world work you could want. We also offer company-wide and programme-specific rewards that make all the hard work worthwhile. These include wellbeing initiatives, a free tech MBA, healthcare support, a pension scheme and more.

Technology in Tax

You’ll work closely with colleagues across borders, using EY tools and networks to solve complex business and tax problems. By combining the power of EY’s tax experience with innovative technology, you can help us transform the tax function of the future.

This is where your adventure begins and where you have every opportunity to build an exceptional experience. Embrace the challenge as you help us build a better working world for everyone.

Are you eligible to apply?

We operate an open access policy, meaning we don’t screen out applications on your academic performance alone. You will, however, need to be working towards an honour’s degree in any subject, have a minimum of grade 4/C GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths, and three A-levels/Five Highers (or equivalent).

We welcome applications from all academic backgrounds and are looking for people who will succeed at EY today and tomorrow. That's why, through our recruitment process, your academic performance will be considered against your online assessment scores to determine your suitability for an EY role. We’re also proud to partner with RARE recruitment, so that your application can be processed in the context of your socio-economic background.
