Premier league of shipping seeks outgoing and enthusiastic graduates

We’re looking for two graduates who demonstrate passion, enthusiasm, friendliness, and willingness to learn from others to join Kuehne + Nagel within Seafreight in September 2019. The contract is two years, and comprises of four rotations. There are a range of locations available, but you can expect to spend your first two rotations in the same place.

About the scheme and what you’ll be doing

Our graduates can’t be decision makers in the future if they don’t understand the foundations of the company, so you should expect to start your learning in Import and Export Operations for your first year and engage in a full customer service role. We don’t expect you to be a superstar on your first day; your role will contribute to the global network and the movement of goods around the world so we need people who are confident but open to feedback and continued learning. The placements will cover four key areas:

• Export Operations – Liverpool, Birmingham or Dartford (8 months)
• Import Operations – Liverpool, Birmingham or Dartford (4 months)
• Products, Commercial or Process & Systems – Location depends on specialism (6 months)
• Products, Commercial or Process & Systems – Location depends on specialism (6 months)

In terms of your rotations, you’ll take on two out of three areas: ‘Product’, ‘Commercial’ or ‘Process and Systems’. ‘Product’ might involve the freight of LCL (less-than container load) or FCL (full container load) for certain commodities. Graduates could also be working on ISC (International Supply Chain) projects, which is a great opportunity to closely consider how we can add value and give greater cost savings to our key accounts. ‘Process and Systems’, on the other hand, is related to our technology development, so you could be supporting our customers’ ability to track their consignment. Overall, you’ll need great collaboration skills as you’ll be working with our customers to develop solutions that suit their business needs and budget.

What kind of person will enjoy this role?

We are looking for the managers of the future, but our experience tells us that it’s your attitude rather than your knowledge that will help you succeed. K+N Seafreight is number one in the world. We want people who want to join us because we’re number one. Seafreight graduates are typically well organised with a strong work ethic, and have a commercial outlook without the ego. What does that mean in real teams? Well, if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t want to let people down, enjoys healthy team competition but isn’t afraid to ask for help, then we should be a good fit for you.

We need to change as the world changes, and K+N thrives on bringing new graduates into our divisions. Our Seafreight graduate scheme is perfect if you want embark on a programme where you get to try a bit of everything, whilst becoming fully immersed in an industry that doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with your degree. That said, graduates with Business, Logistics or Maritime-related degrees will slot in very quickly with Seafreight.

Where might the Seafreight graduate scheme take you?

This programme aims to grow customer-centric managers, so at the end of your rotations you can expect to be well-rounded in terms of your understanding of the business, the technology and processes used to deliver a great service, and the skills needed to become an effective manager at K+N. During your later placements, we’ll discuss what your next role with K+N might look like – some of our previous graduates have gone on to work as Process and Systems Analysts or into Commercial roles. We will work with you to find a role that suits your interests and ambition, and that also fits with the business needs.

What do you need to be eligible to apply?

• A 2:2 degree qualification (achieved or expected) and 5 GCSE’s Grade A-C including Maths & English
• Right to work in the UK
• You must be geographically mobile, able to relocate for placements and have a driving license/access to transport

What can we offer you?

• Starting salary £27,000 plus a £1000 welcome bonus + benefits (pension, healthcare, cashback & discount portal)
