What you’ll do:
Our aim is to accelerate your Retail Career through a 3 year comprehensive development programme which runs alongside on the job training and results in you achieving nationally recognised qualifications. You will start by learning what it’s like to be a Team Leader in the hustle and bustle of one our Mainline Rail stores. You will deliver exceptional customer service; ensure your store is well stocked, fully staffed and ready to deal with any challenges which may come your way. Next up is the exciting task of taking on your own store. Starting with a small format you will take pride in running an outstanding store, being determined to turn every customer’s visit into a great experience; you’ll lead your team in upholding the highest standards, as you drive sales and manage cost in line with strict KPIs. As your confidence and experience grow you will move into a medium size store where you’ll really hone in on your skills and build expertise in all areas setting you up to finish your programme by taking on the exciting opportunity as a Large Store Manager.

Who we’re looking for:
At WHSmith, customers, people and results are key; therefore you must be passionate about delivering great customer service as well as developing and leading people who deliver results.
You need to be a top flight graduate who is; self-motivated, results focused and highly commercial. You will be confident in your abilities with a willingness to challenge yourself and the business to constantly find new ways of increasing performance and solving problems. The ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and teams and influence and inspire them to do the right thing for the store is a must. You will be analytical and have a keen interest in understanding and pre-empting customer and market needs and implementing new ideas in order to boost sales and outdo competition. You also need a 2:1 degree (minimum), ideally in a Retail or Business-related subject. But what will really count is an entrepreneurial approach. We will provide the platform and support for you to grow quickly, where you go from there is driven by your determined attitude to succeed.
