Programme Facilitator (Probation Service Officer) - London

Permanent and 12-month fixed term contract

Working to deliver better futures for offenders, reduce reoffending and protect the public from harm, the Probation Service is a truly unique organisation. Sitting within the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), we embrace the most creative and innovative approaches to helping offenders find a better path in life, which is where you come in. We are currently looking for a number of people to help us create and deliver interventions for those who are on probation. Providing group interventions, the aim of these interventions is to help people change their behaviour, and in doing so, reduce their chances of reoffending.

This is a great opportunity to get involved in a really fulfilling initiative and gain valuable experience within the justice system. After an initial three-day assessed group work skills training programme you will be trained to deliver a Structured Intervention (SI). We will pair you with an experienced co-worker who will provide invaluable guidance and support. As you gain confidence in your capabilities, you will have the chance to take on further training opportunities in which you will learn new skills. It is important that we provide continuity for those who are on probation, so you will also work collaboratively with other departments within the criminal justice system, presenting reports and other documentation relating to your activities with each individual.

If you are keen to either secure a role that will fit flexibly around your lifestyle commitments, or you would like to enhance your chances of securing a permanent role within the Probation Service , then you will thrive in our team. To be equal to the challenge you will need to be at least 18 years old, and you will have great communication and organisation skills. With the confidence to present and influence a group of people, you won't be phased by handling complex situations, so you will bring plenty of resilience to the role.

It is possible that you will have studied (or be studying) criminology, or you will have experience of working with people who have struggled with social or personal difficulties such as substance misuse and accommodation issues. With a minimum of 5 GCSE’s (grade C or above) and a good level of numeracy, you will have plenty of initiative, a good work ethic and be willing to travel occasionally.
