Job Description

Mott MacDonald has provided fire engineering consultancy services for prestigious buildings projects worldwide including the Wembley Stadium, Parliamentary Estates, Crossrail, Arab Centre for Research and Policy Studies, Ministry of Defence, Jakarta City Master planning, conversion of Olympic Stadium 2012 to West Ham's football ground, Thames Water and Bahrain City Centre Shopping Mall). We specialise in developing fire engineering strategies for a whole host of project types ranging across healthcare premises, retail, schools, universities, residential developments, hotel complexes, public and government buildings, sporting facilities, surface and sub-surface rail stations, retail and leisure facilities, historic and heritage protected buildings, military and high value/sensitive installations.

As a fire safety engineer you will be expected to take ownership in developing fire engineering solutions, support existing fire engineering team and would be responsible for:

• Computational fluid dynamics modelling of fire dynamics and conducting evacuation modelling

• Analysing and designing bespoke fire engineering solutions from first principles

• Reviewing building designs and architecture against current codes of practice

• Analyses of potential fires design scenarios, and develop advice based on outcome

• Providing recommendations in relation to life safety systems for buildings

• Lobbying authorities having jurisdiction for approvals in relation to fire strategy design

• Providing performance based solutions to the applicable frameworks

• Assisting the production of fire strategy reports for buildings

• Liaising as part of a design team with architects, structural engineers, building services engineers and other designers

Candidate Specification

To apply, you will have less than 12 months experience and have achieved a Masters Degree or above in one of the following degree disciplines:

• Fire engineering

• Mechanical engineering

• Aeronautical engineering

• Electrical engineering

• Structural engineering

• Civil engineering

• Building services engineering

• Public health engineering

• Chemical engineering

• Architecture

• Any other related science/engineering Masters Degree

You will be able to demonstrate an interest in fire engineering, and ideally have some relevant experience through studying relevant modules, projects completed at university or work experience.

You should have a methodical approach to problem solving and able use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently. You should have excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members. You will need to have excellent written communication and attention to detail, and be able to demonstrate your reports and technical drawings are accurate.
