Kent Graduate Senior Accounting Technician Trainee

Take your Financial skills to the next level

Whether it’s education or transport, strategic planning or emergency services, Kent County Council’s focus is on improving lives. We want to ensure every pound spent in the county delivers better outcomes for our residents, communities and businesses. Join our graduate programme, and we’ll help you achieve your ambitions as you help us achieve ours.

Our accounting department manages a budget of over £1.5bn. For anyone with the ambition to forge a career in finance, this alone would be an impressive draw. However, that £1.5bn is used to run the essential services that underpin everyday life for our 1.57m residents: an accounting career here brings both professional and personal pride.

The Programme

What’s so great about this role is the breadth of experience you’ll quickly build. There’ll be opportunities to help the Revenue and Tax Strategy team with financial planning, policy and strategy and work closely with the Principal and Senior Accountants in our Capital and Revenue, and Schools, High Needs and Early Years teams. You will also support statutory returns, financial analysis and budgets right across the department.

You will benefit from a structured training plan that includes opportunities for real responsibility and hands-on experience. With plenty of support from colleagues across the council, you will be exposed to different aspects of finance, and work towards the Professional Accounting/Taxation Technician apprenticeship (Level 4) and other related personal development activity.

Who can apply?

To get the most from this opportunity you will hold a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in any discipline and GCSEs in English and Maths (grades C or above). You will have some previous work experience in a Finance environment and will be numerate, with well-developed IT skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships. This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated, resilient graduate who is passionate about forging a career in a progressive local authority.
