About Her Majesty’s Prison & Probation Service (HMPPS)

HMPPS carries out sentences given by the courts, helping people lead law-abiding and useful lives, both while they are in prison and after they are released. We support people in our care on their road to rehabilitation through education and employment.

About Justice Leaders

Mixing cutting-edge learning and intense frontline experience, Justice Leaders gives you unique insights into the criminal justice system. Expect to spend time with the Police, in courts and with the Prison and Probation Service.

You’ll start by completing the full Prison Officer Entry Level Training programme and will work for three months as a prison officer. Later you will spend 17 months working across the Prison and Probation Service while completing the Professional Qualification in Probation. For the final two years, you will choose a specialism from Prison, Probation or Youth Custody and complete the final stage of your bespoke Masters qualification.

At every step, you will help to improve the experiences of people moving through the system, bringing about positive change through your inspirational attitude, engagement, and commitment to making a difference to the lives of those in your care.

Who can apply?

HMPPS actively welcomes applicants from all backgrounds who can demonstrate high levels of motivation, resilience and drive. Given the academic ability required to study for the Justice Leaders Masters qualification you must have achieved at least a 2:2 undergraduate degree qualification in any subject or if you are still studying are due to graduate with a predicted grade of at least 2:2 in 2022. Due to the challenging nature of the leadership roles, you will be completing alongside academic study this scheme is suited to applicants who have huge passion, drive and desire to improve the lives of others, with a few years of work experience post-graduation.
