hackajob partnered with Thales, a company that has exciting opportunities and is looking to recruit a Junior Software Engineer with an interest in embedded engineering to join their growing software community across their Glasgow and Reading sites.


Working as part of a growing and diverse team, you will work across a diverse product portfolio that encompasses cutting-edge land, sea and air products and fulfil an integral software engineering role, involved in many aspects of software development across the full software life-cycle. Thales operates a hybrid working model where it is possible to blend working from home and on-site. This role is open to full or part-time candidates.


What you'll do:


  • Write software in C++/C that follows software design and interface control descriptions/specifications and adheres to the software architectures written in UML
  • Where requested update design documentation to capture design and record design decisions
  • Write unit tests to exercise the software written and where appropriate automate these tests in line with the project/business strategy and Continuous Integration process
  • Correct code to adhere to static analysis rules
  • Proactively be part of an Agile Scrum team and attend and contribute to Agile meetings maintaining and progressing own backlog items in Jira, in line with personal and team commitments made in sprint planning sessions


You would be great for this role if you:


  • You are a self-motivated software professional with experience in software design, implementation and unit testing preferably for real-time and embedded software systems
  • Experience in one or more of the following: Visual Studio, IBM Rhapsody, SVN/GIT, Jira and Jenkins
  • Experience in developing with languages C++ is essential with some C experience desirable
  • Experience working with an operating system is desirable e.g. Linux
  • Exposure to static analysis tools (e.g Klockwork or Coverity) is desirable but not essential
  • It would be beneficial if you have experience working within a software team in an Agile environment within University or in a summer/internship role
  • Exposure to Continuous Integration is also beneficial but not essential

This would be an excellent opportunity for an entry-level or graduate candidate with aspirations to develop technically with routes to specialists and experts.
