The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a proactive and diligent colleague to join the Global Opportunities Team at Newcastle University. You will support delivery of the University’s ambitious Global Strategy by providing support for a broad portfolio of global initiatives.

The purpose of the role is to develop frameworks for international exchange of students and staff, and to support the implementation, coordination and administration of an innovative and inclusive portfolio of global placement opportunities, including the new Turing Scheme. 

 

You will develop and manage a range of relationships interacting closely with the other International Office teams, and a wide range of Academic and Professional Services units both within the University and across a wide range of international organisations including universities, government bodies, NGOs and corporations. You will provide management, co-ordination and support for a broad portfolio of work with the intention of supporting the University’s strategic and academic objectives for international mobility of staff and students, with a particular focus on expanding opportunities and enhancing the student and staff experience. The Global Opportunities team develops and manages the frameworks and administration of the University’s global programmes, with the aim to equip our students and staff with the skills to succeed as critical global citizens. The post holder will support the development and implementation of an inclusive and innovative portfolio of opportunities, including work placements, volunteering, summer schools, exchange programmes and research placements, and directly contribute to the aims and objectives of our ambitious Global Strategy.

Key Accountabilities

1.   Contribute to the development and implementation of international strategies for Newcastle University.

2.   With support from the International Office Management team, take responsibility for a range of functions related to international mobility, taking leadership for an agreed set of priorities as part of a team approach:

  • Internationalisation of the student experience
  • International partnerships and stakeholder relations
  • Development of profile, brand and reputation 
  • Supporting international student engagement, recruitment and a range of other business objectives across the University 

3.   Contribute to the development, implementation and administration of new mobility programmes:

  • Develop frameworks for the delivery of new mobility programmes;
  • Develop policies and procedures that meet compliance requirements;
  • Manage the cross-institutional communication with Academic Units and Professional Services colleagues involved in the delivery of mobility programmes;

4.   Development, management and co-ordination of the University’s portfolio of student exchange partnerships:

  • Development of streamlined policy and procedures to support international partnership development including drafting and negotiating exchange agreements with partner organisations;
  • Exchange partner liaison and communications.

5.   Undertake market research and data analysis to produce reports and background information that is effective and applied to strategic priorities and objectives.

6.   Develop and maintain positive and effective relationships with:

   (1) international institutions, sponsors and other international partners, with the aim of achieving strategic objectives, and

   (2) staff in academic and professional service units involved in international exchange to provide effective service and co-ordination.

7.   Develop and maintain knowledge and expertise relating to international mobility and the internationalisation of Higher Education in general. 

8.   Any other duties as directed.

Desirable

•   Experience of Business Process Improvement

•   Knowledge of international Higher Education.

Qualifications

•   Educated to a Level 4 award/HNC or equivalent or an appropriate combination of relevant qualifications and demonstrable transferrable experience.

•   Educated to Degree level or equivalent (desirable).
