This, along with training provided works to ensure you are ready and experienced enough to take the next step of your career following the programme's conclusion.
The Mechanical Platform (MPF) Group is responsible for the concept, design, manufacture, test, launch and operation of set products that enable the transfer and subsequent operation of either 100 kg spacecraft or 7000 kg satellites to an altitude of up to 35,786 km. Earth Observation, Navigation and Science (ENS) Architects are similarly responsible for spacecraft missions of typically 800 - 3000kg and can involve missions to other planets, such as Mars (a Rover), Mercury and Jupiter in the near future, various Earth Observation, Navigation and Science orbits and Legrange Points for Solar Observation and Astronomy missions. ENS missions push back the boundaries of fundamental scientific research. These products must continue to operate for up to 15 years with full reliability and no servicing! The design approach is further challenged by the need to maintain a nominal temperature while the external environment is varying between -150OC and +150OC and the satellite is surrounded by deep space at a radiation sink temperature close to absolute zero.
These design teams ensure coherence and continual development of advanced mechanical, thermal and propulsion products, aligned with and in co-operation with other satellite system specialists. Once developed these design teams are accountable for continued successful application of our products within a 'projects' environment through to 'in-space' operation.
Main activities will include:

¤ Verification of requirements by subsystem performance analysis and test.
¤ Managing the preparation of detailed design drawings etc.
