Passionate about the food industry, but not sure which function is for you? That’s where we come in!
Our General Management Scheme will give you the variety of experiences to help you decide how your future in food might look.
We may have been around for 167 years, but we’re not hanging around in the past!
We are a sixth-generation family business, with a portfolio of five food companies: Abel & Cole, our bakery Jacksons, MyFresh, Wellocks and The Food Doctor. Great people and great food are at the heart of what we do and we’re exceptionally proud of our heritage and values. Yet we understand that the development of talented people is critical for our continued success in an ever-changing industry. Our graduates make up a valued part of our Group, and for four years now we’ve been welcoming them into a variety of functions across our different businesses.
A scheme that gives you great understanding of how different departments work together
This challenging two-year scheme is a busy mix of work placements, project assignments and development training. You’ll be following a structured programme, working in four of our businesses across our Group. If you’re not set on working in one particular function, then this is the perfect scheme for you; during the two years, you could find yourself anywhere from an operations role at Jacksons in Hull, to a sales and marketing role at The Food Doctor in central London. No matter where your journey with us leads, the range of experience you’ll gain will prove invaluable.
We take your learning and development seriously
We’ll also set you up with a two-year training plan, which includes externally accredited courses, as well as personal development training designed to build management skills.
We’d love for you to apply
If you are a recent graduate (2016 onwards), or are in your final year of study.
We’re not looking for any degree subjects in particular; our current grads have studied everything from languages to zoology! What’s more important is that you can demonstrate a real passion for the food industry and want to develop a great knowledge of the different functions.
We’re looking for managers in the making
Strong organisational and communication skills are a must. You’ll also need good analytical and problem solving skills as you’ll be identifying areas for improvement and proposing solutions. The role requires plenty of flexibility, not only will you move between roles in four very different functions, you will be completing your placements across our different businesses that are located across the country.
So what’s in it for me?
-Roles with responsibility, and opportunities for ownership in the work you do.
-Exposure to our senior leadership teams, both through project work and in your day to day role.
-Full financial support to gain professional qualifications, including the Chartered Management Institute principles of management and leadership.
-Regular mentoring meetings with a senior manager from one of our businesses.
-A support network of current graduates. Between them they have a variety of experiences in businesses and roles (and they’re a sociable bunch, too!).
Think you’ve got what it takes? We would love to hear from you:
Follow the apply button below, and you’ll be asked to submit your CV and answer a few questions so that we can get to know you a little better. The deadline is February 18th, though don’t delay as we may close applications before then! We will start interviewing in March with the final selection event taking place in early April.
