We are working in partnership with a leading international specialist insurer in hiring an entry level Junior DevOps Engineer.


The Department
This IT area, operates as a strategic business partner as opposed to a more traditional support function. The division, made up of 220 IT experts and specialists, is central to the company strategy, driving the agenda in each Business Unit. They are made up of people who push the organization to think differently and therefore look to attract / recruit people who aren’t afraid to challenge how things are done and approach their work with a pioneering mindset. IT is not a home for the faint hearted. The IT Department is trusted for its track record of delivery and is respected for commercial thinking.


The role
The Junior Build & Release Engineer will be involved in driving the adoption of DevOps culture, methodology, tools and processes across IT delivery teams in a way that add tangible business value to the organisation.The Junior Build & Release Engineer ensures that tool chain technologies (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Dynatrace, Artifactory, Splunk, Puppet, etc) are supported and upgraded as part of business as usual.


IT is located across many offices around the globe and there may be travel opportunities for this person penidng on the projects worked on.


The Junior Build & Release Engineer will be managed and tutored directly by the Line Manager and there will also be plenty of opportunities for training courses, conferences and industry meetups to develop your skills further. Public speaking internally and externally is also encouraged.


Key responsibilities
Support the Platform Services Group tool chain with business as usual tasks such as upgrades, capacity planning and dealing with end user queries.
Work with the wider team to implement Continuous Delivery pipelines and orchestrations.
Evangelise the adoption of DevOps related methodologies across the business.
Be actively engaged with the external DevOps community keeping abreast of industry movements.


Essential skills and experience
Good analytical and problem solving skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, be able to build rapport with ease.
Computer Science degree or knowledge in this area
Passionate about the DevOps movement
Have the ability to work effectively within a team as well as working individually
Takes on challenges that are a stretch and outside of comfort zone

Technical skills
Source Control - Git, Bitbucket
Development - Java,.NET, Ruby or JSO
