The Strategic Road Network (SRN) is arguably the biggest and single most important piece of infrastructure in the country. It is at the core of our national transport system. England’s strategic road network consists of more than 4,300 miles of motorway and major A roads including a highly complex asset base of more than 16,000 structures 21,870 miles of pavement and 110,000 technology assets.
What we are looking for
Our standards are extremely high and our atmosphere is friendly and stimulating. We are looking for ambitious graduates who have a degree with honours in engineering or technology (accredited as a base for CEng learning). In addition, you should have either an appropriate Masters degree (accredited or approved by a professional institution) or an equivalent level of further learning.
A team player, you demonstrate great communication skills and the passion and dedication it takes to deliver results. You can make change happen in a fast paced environment. You should also bring to the role excellent problem solving skills and a proven ability to deal with challenging workloads. This role will provide lots of opportunity for both personal and professional development in a large evolving organisation.
Through a series of varied placements across a 3 year period we are able to offer you variety, stimulation, challenge and early responsibility. We are also committed to your development. You will enjoy the opportunity to explore a range of design and management activities. Your work will support both our business and your own personal growth.
Your placements will enable you to develop the skills you need to achieve chartered engineer status. Working with senior colleagues to plan your own placements, you can direct the learning you need. With opportunities for placements across our business and externally with our suppliers, you will be an ambassador for Civil Engineering at Highways England.
With support from senior colleagues, you will enjoy the chance to plan and manage your own training. Your professional training will involve release from your day to day responsibilities for study. Ultimately, you will acquire all the knowledge necessary to build a rewarding career in the field of civil engineering.
•A good salary and benefits.
•3 years of on-the-job training with a chance to experience many different aspects of Highways England, our supply chain, and civil engineering through diverse placements.
•Flexible working arrangements.
•Additional study days.
•The support and guidance of both a delegated engineer and a supervising civil engineer, who will help you plan and manage your training.
•Career planning support to help you find a permanent role with us.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Together with some knowledge of civil engineering, gained during your
education, we ask that you hold the following:
•Minimum of a 2:2 degree plus a Masters degree or equivalent learning, as outlined above.
•XXXXXX + UCAS points at A Level (or equivalents) from your top three grades.
•GCSE English & Maths.
