The Graduate Chemical Engineer will contribute to a team of dedicated technical specialists to work with operations and external stakeholders in delivering high performance across Viridor (and Pennon), by providing our Landfill and Energy functions with innovative and practical technical solutions to boost operational performance, mitigate risk and create value and cost-effective management of process materials and energy solutions.

In this role, as our Graduate Chemical Engineer, you’ll provide specialist technical support and advice related to environmental compliance, risk and optimisation of corporate assets via their chemical engineering knowledge. You’ll provide the wider business with analysis and interpretation of operational and regulatory data in line with our ethos of continual improvement.

You’ll develop procedures and processes related to reducing landfill liabilities (leachate and gas) and promoting redevelopment opportunities. You’ll also develop procedures and processes related to Energy Recovery Facility residues assessment and management.

You’ll have a degree in Chemical Engineering and demonstrable knowledge and/or experience in the application of chemical process engineering or environmental problem solving and be organised. The role will include project management and reporting therefore being numerate, accurate, diligent and self-motivated is key. You’ll be a strong relationship builder and be able to communicate at all levels effectively as you’ll be required to engage with internal stakeholders, regulatory bodies and industry partners at a national and local level.

Whilst not essential, knowledge or experience of the waste management, renewable energy and/or resource recovery industries would be desirable as would working knowledge of landfill leachate or similar waste water treatment systems.

The role will be based preferably in Manchester with UK travel; therefore, a full driving license is essential.
