Working hours

Office hours are 7am - 5.30pm, Monday to Friday however, start and finish times will be flexible due to operations and travel requirements.


Please be aware that the business operates weekend hours and although you will not be expected to work regularly during your placement this may be a requirement post graduate placement.


Travel and site rotations

This role will consist of four five month rotations within our Readymix division covering commercial, technical, production and distribution and will be based in the Cross Green sector office in Leeds and around the West Yorkshire region. There will be a 4 month period at the end of these rotations where you will be able to pick which discipline you would like to go back to.


Driving

Full driving licence required and a suitable vehicle will be provided. There will be an expectation to travel to other sectors within the region to observe their teams.


Vacancy description


The readymix division’s main focus is the design, production and supply of readymix concrete to a wide range of customers and projects within the West Yorkshire market.


Your time spent as a Graduate Trainee will commence in the technical department to provide an understanding of the product range provided by Tarmac Readymix. The technical department is key to ensuring the optimum design of our product range and effective quality control of the finished goods delivered to our customers. This is done through laboratory mix trials, sampling and providing technical advice on site.


Following your time in technical you will then move on to the production department where you will learn about the different production facilities that make up the Readymix business. You will have the opportunity to apply your earned knowledge to the manufacturing process and learn how the technical quality design translates to the live production process.


In the commercial team you will gain an understanding of how we market and sell our products. You will gain knowledge on customer segmentation and customer/product mix balance within a given marketplace and how this impacts on the overall business strategy for Readymix and the wider company.


Finally, you will spend time with the distribution team in order to gain an understanding of how bulk orders are effectively organised and managed for the duration of supply to a specific contract/customer. This will also include managing our third party haulier fleet to meet customer delivery times in the most economic way.
