Minimum candidate requirements
Minimum of a 2:2 at degree level
Standard working hours are 8.30am-5pm, Monday to Friday however, flexibility will be given with regard to start and finish times due to operational work or travel requirements.
Travel and site rotations
This role will consist of five 4 month rotations within our Aggregates & Asphalt division covering operations, commercial, technical, estates & geology and logistics. This is a national role and time will be spent in each of our three sector regional offices: Birtley, Durham; Syston, Leicester and; Colchester, Essex
Full driving licence required and a company car will be provided.
As a General Manager Graduate your time will be spent within the Aggregates & Asphalt division where you will be able to obtain a full overview of the business. The operations rotation will give you an understanding of our production process across asphalt plants as well as sand and gravel units. Time spent in our technical department will give you visibility of our product range through effective quality control of the goods which are delivered to our customers. Throughout the programme you will be exposed to Tarmac's stringent health, safety and wellbeing standards however, within the estates & geology rotation this will be of particular focus. Here you will also learn how each site is impacted by the importance of cost control in terms of stock management, operational costs and process efficiency.
As part of the commercial team you will gain an understanding of how we market and sell our products. You will gain knowledge on customer segmentation and customer/product mix balance within a given marketplace. Finally, you will spend time within the distribution team in order to gain an understanding of how orders are effectively organised and managed for the duration of supply to a customer. This will also include managing our third party haulier fleet to meet customer delivery times in the most economic way. This department is at the heart of our day to day operation, linking all other functions together in order to provide a high standard of customer service.
The programme has been designed to ensure that the individual has a base knowledge in every area to obtain the desired role at the end of the scheme which could include quarry supervisor, external account manager, area technical manager or despatch supervisor. From here your career can take you as far as you want to go.
