About Barnet

At the London Borough of Barnet (LBB), a career in finance and accounting is not just about the numbers - it’s about making a difference.

If you are passionate about working to support local communities, the LBB graduate programme might just be for you.

Our programme

Our three-and-a-half-year accountancy graduate scheme ensures you experience the major finance functions of the council, whilst shaping you to become one of our finance leaders of the future, developing your leadership and strategic thinking.

Here at Barnet, we place a strong emphasis on personal development and as a result, support our trainees by providing them with a dedicated mentor who will support them through this career changing journey, alongside a close-knit, collaborative finance team who will be there to guide you having taken the same path to become successful in their own careers.

We are partnered with the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), who deliver a world-class three-year professional accountancy qualification. A qualification that you will study alongside your everyday duties here at Barnet; All training is fully funded by the Council, overseen by a supportive senior leadership team and unlike some other Graduate programmes, Barnet will allow you to have fully funded college days during your work week, meaning the learning in your own time is reduced.

Diversity and Inclusion

At LBB, inclusion and diversity are central to our values. We have a genuine focus on inclusion enabling our staff to feel supported, respected, and confident.

We also have a wide range of staff networks ensuring that people of all characteristics are provided with a safe space to have real, honest conversations on and around work-life experience, as well as highlighting areas for both improvement and success.

As an inclusive employer, we are particularly interested in receiving applications from all communities all backgrounds.

What is in it for you?

  • Funded professional accountancy qualification with CIPFA, as well as performance bonuses for each module successfully completed
  • Paid 20% off the job training which includes your college days
