About the Role:
As part of the Controls Systems Applied Performance team you will be involved in all aspects of the on-car control system, generating an understanding of the control systems, the mechanical systems they govern and the race driver’s interaction with the systems. You will immerse yourself in remote operational Control Systems Support of our race cars during events, providing real-time monitoring and post session analysis. You will create detailed Pre and Post event reports relating to the various performance controls systems including Race Starts, Driveability, Powertrain operation to empower the trackside controls members decisions.
- You will also be involved in:
- Assisting with the development and release cycle of on-board embedded control system code using Matlab Simulink.
- On-car systems calibration and analysis using car data and metric tools using Matlab and data viewer analysis platforms.
- Functionality development of the physical and virtual control testing environments.
- Provide support for new and existing powertrain systems / components during inhouse dyno testing and support in house Virtual Track Tests.
Successful candidates will have:
A passion for motorsport is an advantage however, we are looking for candidates who are passionate about reaching their full potential and are excited about constantly learning. Whatever your background and motorsport interest, we believe that you will find your placement with us a memorable and enriching experience.
Flexibility in hours, enthusiasm to support F1 race weekend work is required, along with a ‘can do’, ‘team-playing’ attitude and the ability to work to strict deadlines under minimal supervision.
Essential:
- At least one year left on their studies at the time of taking up the placement in July 2024.
- A strong degree (eg a First or 2:1) in a relevant engineering discipline with some specialisation in control systems.
- Awareness of Matlab, Simulink.
- Very proficient in Office-based tools use and programming (Excel).
Desirable:
- Dependable with a strong work ethic.
- Good analytical skills.
Skills you could gain from your placement include:
- Deep insight into automotive control systems.
- Appreciation of team working with a right first time mantra.

Recruitment timings and process:
Typically, our Industrial Placements are for a thirteen-month period starting in July 2024.
All assessments in the recruitment process are in English: this is the primary language used within the organisation and you need a good level of written and spoken English in the Industrial Placement role.
This position is office-based, at our campus in Brackley, United Kingdom.
